There will be a vote tonight in both chambers. We still haven't seen the official language - as part of the negotiations the GOP outlawed reading - but it will pass both the House and Senate. That wail you hear is the progressives in Congress being whipped by party leaders. (What, you thought the term 'whip' was metaphorical?)

And there shall be a great cry throughout all of Congress, such as has never been heard before, nor shall be heard again.

Harry Reid has signed off. Sounds like it's all over. All they need is Nancy to bend over and it's a done deal.

Reid, Durbin and Schumer were in her office earlier. I'm sure she has been whipped into shape.

Edit: Reports are that the final hangup is on defense cuts. Obama wants bigger cuts, the GOP wants smaller cuts. We'll end up adding 10%.

You've got to be ****ing kidding me. If we're going to cut everything but defense, can we at least start looting the countries we invade for ****? I bet if we conquered Canada their oil reserves would buy us another 20-25 years on our ****hole of an economy.

Where are you seeing this? I've chcked into most major news sites and only seen references to "GOP concerns" about future defense cuts...which is still asinine, but I haven't seen it listed as a deal breaker anywhere.

I give it 45 minutes before the Dems cave in on that. You know how some people draw a line in the sand...the Dems are too afraid of the sand to draw a line.

Seriously just walk away...stop giving in already! Stop screwing over everyone that voted for you this isnt in the best interests of the country.

BTW to answer Faux News...the people lost, the liberals lost, the moderates lost and the GOP won.

Google News says the GOP Senators won't try any delaying tactics; no word from the House.

I'm watching MSNBC and Pelosi just congratulated Obama...seems like a done deal. "Do you support it?" "I haven't read it, I don't know the details." Oh well, we can vote now and let the GOP put whatever they want in the bill after it passes. She did say she isn't on board yet (guess Reid needs to send a Republican to whip her).

A progressive Congressman from NY is on now and isn't very happy about the bill (what little he knows about it) but is talking about the debt ceiling "crisis" in the past tense.

Edit: Pelosi won't meet with Dems until tomorrow, so no vote in House tonight

House GOP will have a conference call tonight at 8:30. House Dems will meet tomorrow at 2PM.

Jonathan Alter says if bill passes it will have to be 1/2 GOP and 1/2 Dems in House.

Reid just left McConnell's office, brief statement was that they're still working on a deal.

Why Obama Won Debt Deal

The President got what he most wanted, postponing another debt ceiling fight until after the election and without politically damaging entitlement cuts.

Everything else is eye wash. Most of the spending cuts are in the out years, which is another way of saying it won’t happen.

And one more committee to study cuts? Oh please, even if they call it a “super” committee that’s always a Capitol Hill euphemism for doing nothing. Adding so-called triggers for cuts if goals aren’t met also means nothing. Remember Gramm-Rudman?

Giving up tax increases on the wealthy is probably Obama’s biggest concession, but that fight lives for another day when the Bush cuts are scheduled to expire later on.

Even if liberals beat up the President for this deal, he wins. Nothing would help him more in his obvious effort to move to the center and appeal to independent voters for reelection.

Can someone send John McCain over there to screw everything up? He did it so well in '08 with the Financial Crisis and this time it would actually be helpful!
