Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

Re: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

The only real war crime in Ep3 is Natalie Portman somehow looks awful, which should not be possible even for Alan Smithee.

Do you mean Keira Knightley? Or Natalie Portman? Or both? ;) Edit: my bad, KK was in Ep 1, not 3.

Possibly but it looks like Kylo Ren has the rebel scum down to about 50 fighters if the final scene in last Jedi are showing all that's left.

He's making Palpatine proud😈

Wasn't the point of showing the kid in the stables that as long as there is hope, the Resistance will never die?

Hey KK was the decoy in the movie. You cannot deny they look more than similar.

I don't see it:

The one on the right is lovely. The one on the left was my waitress at the Titled Kilt last night.

Yes. They're like cockroaches they can survive nuclear holacaust. Ren's going to have to up his game in order to finish what Vader started😆

"Jimmy was the kind of guy who rooted for the bad guys in the movies"😀

Re: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

Why have shields at all if they're so easily disabled by the Resistance?

Let's just admit it - Star Wars villains are almost always the dumbest villains in cinematic history. They waste time and resources building these complicated super-weapons that can be easily defeated by a ragtag band of pipsqueaks who happen to know how to channel a little space magic.

to be fair, it should have been impossible for them to drop out of hyperspace inside the shields.

dropping out of hyperspace in planet's atmosphere seems impossible considering what we know about how FTL travel works in Star Wars. And even dumber, apparently the precise time to drop out of hyperspace was calculated in Han Solo's head, since he said "now" and manually threw a switch, despite the fact that they'd be traveling so fast that his reaction time would have to be impossibly fast to time it right.

Space wizards. It's a movie about wizards in space and the people around them. You need some form of that suspension of disbelief going into these things.

Re: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

The "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" novelization will include several scenes which were not in the final cut of the movie and even scenes that were never shot. More in-depth story between Rey and Luke, more stuff from Canto Bight among others. The big addition fans will really want is the funeral of Han Solo. The novelization is available to pre-order now. I highly recommend the audiobook version. They do a quality show with sound effects straight from the films and a full musical score.

Star Wars Celebration 2019 will be April 11-15, 2019 in Chicago. Tickets go on sale at noon CST June 5.

I'm heartbroken because I won't be able to go since I'll be in Scotland. :(

But hey, I'm going to Scotland. :)

Re: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

The first half of that movie was one of the worst of the series. As bad as the worst parts of Episode 1, and maybe worse. The cinematography was garbage and the focus changing was nauseatingly bad. The only thing worse was the story. It was like 30 fanboys sat in a room and fought over the story and glued it together to make a monster.

The second half was great. Legitimately great. It gave us everything that made Star Wars a fantastic series. Cheering, heartbreak, gorgeous visuals, amazing battles, hope.

But the last half just couldn’t bring up the first half. Unfortunately that would normally average out to a C. I’ll give it a B- because I liked how it ended. But I really can’t forgive the first half.

Re: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

I think too much is being read into the boy at the end.

I just took it as one seed of a movement being planted and don't expect to see him again.

There's only one movie left which doesn't leave much time to develope a story line for this kid.

A character quibble...

The techie companion of Finn.

She made a point of saying that she never meets the heroes coz she's whatever yet at the end, she's a pilot and handling a tough to handle craft? If she were a pilot, she would have met the heroes.

Also, she's known Finn for about 24 hours yet she "loves" him.

Not a movie killing quibble, but should never have gotten past a production meeting.

Some cool action sequences too although much of the time I'm bored with action in any movie. Have seen it all before too much.

If note though...

The battle right after Snoke was killed. For a brief bit, was hoping those two would form a duo moving forward.

The cruiser cutting through the other ship at light speed.

The red salt was a neat touch.

A few quick thoughts before I read anyone else's...

Kind of a rambling mess from a plot standpoint.

No.... I didn't have any trouble following it, just had unneeded side adventures.

The whole casino escapade was predictable and I found myself bored.

Also - I know it's become a running gag but how many times can the empire be infiltrated as a plot device?

I think it was good but suffered from trying to cram everybody's cool idea into one movie. Could have cut a solid 30 minutes and been better for it.

Loved Luke especially in the final confrontation and the "see you around kid." Ouch

Rae was quite good and I'm liking Kylo a lot more now too.

Finn was better in the first movie.

I have no problem with anything within the main story arc.

Was pretty sure that we were gonna find out that Rae and Kylo were twins but maybe they aren't going that direction.

I know Gurt doesn’t post anymore, but I think we watched the same movie.
