Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

I was too subtle in my earlier post I guess. You don't think this is 100% Blais pulling Lucia's chain? Completely out of the blue, Blais decides he's is going to "introduce legislation..."

Yep. Chalk one up for the ol' Blaiser.

Timing would be perfect with the upcoming remodel. Didn't occur to me in the least.

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

In alignment with player age limitations and rink size standards. Red Berenson has just proposed coaching age minimum of 70 :)

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

It's set up similar to the NMU Berry Events Center in that the Home and Away benches are on opposite sides of the ice with the penalty boxes on the home team side. I believe MTU also has a similar setup.

Agganis is set up like that as well.

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

I forgot that the rink in Mankato was built to be Olympic size. Is it down to 85' or did they go 90'?

Officially, it's listed as 87'. I have no idea why this is. I assume that's the most they could reduce it from the old 100'. I know at the time Coach Hastings said the intent was to get to NHL size, but we must not have quite made it in the modifications.

Correct MTU does

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

Nine of 12 ECAC rinks have benches on opposite sides. The ones that don't are Princeton, Dartmouth and Union. Oddly at Colgate the home bench is opposite from the side with the penalty boxes.

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

Not to mention, opposite side benches are Don Cherry approved. :p

Also, Cornell is very unique in that the penalty boxes are also on opposite sides.

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

Opposite side benches are a product of the Devil's meddling. If benches are opposite each other, the yammering between benches doesn't really get a chance to bleed over onto the ice and help build those ever-loving rivalry feuds.

Barry and MacInnes are both separated. Point invalid :)

Re: Standard Ice Size Coming Soon?

I was surprised when they let BU build a new rink with advantage penalty boxes. And under that spirit, not happy Lowell hasn't put them in though I'm not sure if the building can accommodate that

Rules don't say anything about the benches having to be on the same side. Rules state it's preferable to have them substantially separated from the bench, but there is no use of the word "shall". Close as possible to 200x85, however, utilizes the word "shall".

i'm of the opinion that if others won't play nice why should we?
