St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

...the game is not listed on Wisconsin's schedule, making it rather difficult to obtain tickets and attend....:D

It's not even a game, it's a scrimmage. A glorified practice.

I've spoken with Wisconsin twice now, including once this morning, and they confirmed once again it's not an event that is open to spectators.

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

If this thing does turn out to be nothing more than a glorified practice that no one can watch then what is the actual point of it? It seems like waste of time and I can't figure out what either team is going to gain by it. Doesn't the Wisconsin basketball team still play exhibitions against some D-3 schools? I know they used to and it would be nice to see the hockey team do the same.

UW plays Ripon this year in hoops. But the rule that allows that may be a hoops only thing...

DIII can play DI. Happens all the time. Sounds plan and simple, UW is afraid of losing to a DIII team. Now if its closed (aka practice) to NOT use up one of the 25 game limit then thats fine....however, thats not the current case being told.

That is not the story being told by St Norbert athletic and school reps. St Norbert fans are being told that the "scrimmage" IS open to the public. I had that confirmed by SNC today, so clearly there are some wires that got crossed here...

Well they are wrong.

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

As bizarre as it sounds, it seems as though it is some UW fans who most want this scrimmage (or practice, or however you want to minimize it) to be closed to the public...

I don't think there's anyone who wants this to be closed to the public. I even wrote on my website how the powers that be are missing an opportunity by keeping this behind closed doors. I'm simply correcting people who have been misinformed. Obviously I wouldn't want people to plan on coming to Madison if they are going to be shutout at the door.

I don't know if it's the case on this thread, necessarily, but I've seen people comment elsewhere who are confusing Wisconsin's Red/White scrimmage that SNC is hosting being open to the public with the UW/SNC scrimmage at LaBahn in Madison. People have been seeing "scrimage, open to the public" and assuming that means the UW/SNC scrimmage, while it's actually the Wisconsin Red/White scrimmage.

nice crew as always it would seem, the Rygus kid looks to have been going to either Colgate or Clarkson at one time or another

On this thread, it is not a problem of SNC fans confusing the Red/White scrimmage with the UW/SNC scrimmage. The UW/SNC scrimmage is on the SNC schedule, fans really want to see how St Norbert would match up against DI (even if it is just a scrimmage), and it's a big deal for the team to have this opportunity. We may be DIII, but we're not confusing hosting an event and playing in one.

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

We just got confirmation from the SNC SID, that the Oct. 25 scrimmage with UW is CLOSED to the public.
What a joke!!! I understand that UW is hosting this event and can set the rules any which way they like.
But it surely stonewalls the hockey fans in Wisconsin of the chance to witness this match up in person..

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

UW's reasoning behind this decision is so completely obvious that I'm actually kinda embarrassed for them.

So, is the red vs white scrimmage also closed to the public? How about if they had the U-18 team or a CIS school scheduled as an exhibition? I highly doubt it.

Whatever... Maybe it's not too late to reschedule St. Thomas as per the original schedule ;). (Seriously though, does anyone know if St. Thomas picked up another game, or are they also left with 24 on their schedule?)

Edit: how about if SNC family members who would be able to attend are allowed to if they sign a promissory note to NEVER SPEAK OF WHAT TOOK PLACE INSIDE THE ARENA UNDER PENALTY OF $200k FINE. Seriously though, it's the biggest shame that those folks can't watch their son's play against the "big boiz."

Sounds like the scrimmage on the 25th is open to family. Still a mistake not to be open to any and all, seems like a good way to be a fundraiser for the schools and/or local youth hockey.

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

Heard from Tim D. that, as of now, there is no webcast planned for the scrimmage...

Re: St. Norbert College, 2014-15 - The Drive for Five

Maybe it's to stop the scratched UW players from transferring.
