St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Getting excited for the start of another season!

Is there talk of a third goalie for SNC this season? I expected Cogs to bring in two goaltenders to compete with Kujava, although I do think Kujava played pretty well once he settled in and knew he was "The Guy." Last season reinforced how important having three tenders on the roster can be. Any word if the Swedish kid (Wahlberg?) who left at semester break last season with potential plans of returning to SNC has done so?

edit: That looks like a negative http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=61752

double edit: Also forgot about Kevin O'Hara. It is possible he showed enough in practice at the end of last season to stay up on the Varsity team as the #3.

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Couple updates:
1 -- All ten recruits are listed in the SNC housing site...so, I assume, they are all on campus.
2 -- It does not appear that either Wahlberg or Lidberg returned.
3 -- I heard that one of our goalie recruits got a 'late' D1 offer...Black had a solid final Jr. season in Texas and should compete for the top job with Kujava..
I am thinking that one of the two JV guys will fill the 3rd goalie slot.
4 -- In searching for info on new recruit Wahlrab, he has a history in both the BCHL and the NAHL....spent a little over one season in the BCHL and part of his final Jr. season in the NAHL...looks to be a very interesting prospect..

SNC has picked up another late recruit, as it was confirmed tonight that Jake Larson has joined the Green Knights for the upcoming season.
He played last season for the Cilliwack Chiefs in the BCHL. Looks to be another offensive prospect....put up nice numbers during his Jr. career.

Interesting...looks like he was originally headed to play at Alaska Anchorage next season but something must have changed and now he's starting college one year earlier.

Also looks like he perhaps had exhausted his Juniors eligibility, so I'm not sure where UAA expected him to play this season.

Honestly, regardless of any remaining Junior eligibility, to me the decision between playing for UAA and SNC is a no-brainer. Especially for a Minnesota kid...

He could redshirt at UAA, but he has an opportunity to play immediately for a national contender.

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Former SNC player and Asst Coach, Ryan Petersen, has been hired by the Madison Capitols of the USHL as an Asst...
Wish him success in MadTown..

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Hearing that the SNC roster will consist of 27 players: 14 returning and 13 new arrivals (12 freshmen and one soph. transfer),,
Ten of the 13 are 6' or taller..will result in a much taller lineup compared to recent seasons..

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

SNC intra squad game set for Saturday, Oct. 24 @ 1:00 @ the CCC....
plenty of new numbers and faces to get used to...

What no "scrimmage" with that other Wisconson team that has a badger for a mascot and has red and white for colors:D or should we add yellow to their colors:eek:

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Thanks for the link.

A few thoughts...

OK, divisions I can handle, even if unbalanced. That said, inherently (slightly) unfair that 3 of 5 teams will advance in one division (60%), while only 3 of 6 (50%) get in for the other.

More unfair, is poor MSOE. I get the idea of alternating the number of teams in the divisions to balance out the above, but that means both times - if I reading this right - MSOE is in a six team division. Talk about a short straw.

The thing that bothers me the most, though, is the 2+ format for the semis, but not the quarters and finals. I don't mind the single game for the title, but then it makes no sense to me to have the 2-plus-mini for the semis.

As it is the #1 will have a big advantage in not playing on Wednesday. But isn't that all more the reason to make it just one game Saturday??? Or is the best of 2 designed to give the lower seed a better chance somehow? I just don't get this. Help me on this...

You're the one who routinely posts links to SNC stories that originate from your own place of employment, so surely you don't need to solicit answers on a dying message board. If you guys had an ounce of proactivity coursing through those veins you'd be all over this and wouldn't have to come in here and beg to be spoonfed by someone who actually expended some effort to figure out what's going on. Go ask a few questions. The answers ain't that hard to find on this one. Love the Ziedins sweater.

I don't work in the sports department, for one.

Two, I saw this late last night - when our sports guys were busy with prep football and it's not exactly the best time to reach people in athletics departments.

Three, at this point I am not sure it's something our sports department would do a story on. while they may think it's a story at some point, I was asking due to my interest as a fan

This is the place for me to express my opinion about hockey - so I don't understand your issue with that.

And, I AM asking questions about it; some folks on here may have some insight about the change.

And, thanks, I like the jersey, too

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

Since I don't have the Adrian thread going yet (and I won't for at least another week yet), I probably should respond.

I don't like this change. To have 6 teams in one division, and 5 in another, is silly, since everybody's playing everybody twice anyway. As for the Wednesday-to-weekend series, I think that's a much bigger advantage to the home team that weekend. By Saturday afternoon/evening, and especially if a mini-game comes into play, there's a serious chance that fatigue comes into play for the road team, playing their 3rd game in 4 days, and especially if the road team on the weekend is also on the road for Wednesday night's game as well.

As for the article. I found it on my FB page, copied it, and pasted it here. I didn't know if you guys had seem something like this yet.

Re: St. Norbert 2015-16 Season

The only way divisions make sense is if there is an unbalanced schedule. If you play each team in your division more often than teams in the other division, it makes sense to use divisions to qualify for the play offs, but not if you play all the teams in the league the same number of games

Agreed. Perhaps this is an artificial way of not having Scholastica play Adrian (or some other long distance pairing) in the first round? Because now, you've cut off half the teams that could make a really long drive to one of the conference outposts.
