In particular, this article describes the beginnings of the Pool system.
In the tournament speculation thread, I erred in saying that the NCHA did not have an autobid pre pool system.
It is important to note two big changes since the sytem was implemented. The ratio is now 1:6.5 which is how we now get 11 teams in the tournament, and the other change is that Pool B teams can also compete for a Pool C bid, which was not allowed originally.
