If this is true one can only hope they don't "cheat" again next year by scoring more goals than their opponent or we may have a repeat of this situation with fretting, stewing and/or brow furrowing.

I heard the B16 is interested in a plan to play all conference games in a twenty consecutive day 'College Hockey Extravaganza' held outdoors on Lake Erie ice in February. Wisconsin's Barry Alvarez is said to be spearheading. As of now, teams will still need to bring their own snow shovels.

Can the Michigan Band be put on one of the sheets of ice and rig it so they'll never be able to reach shore? Stranding them in middle of a lake so no one has to hear that stupid song ever again would be worthy of a Nobel Prize.

Oh no, far from it. Uncle Barry has stated that he'd like to do one every 4 years so that each 4-year player (at UW) will get to play in one.

It won't be us next time if for some reason they do this again, thank goodness. So since we're not playing I bet Goldy and the band can go as long as they all get tickets.

They should just install a retractable roof in Mariucci, then we can host an outdoor game.

Further update. Seems there are still issues to be worked out:


Alvarez says naming rights up for grabs in Erie Extravaganza. City of Cleveland makes suggestion in attempt to shed it's own association with unfortunate moniker. MN objects, insisting 'Mistake by the Lake' was already used last weekend.

UND offers up idea-- 'Winter Icebreaker'. Along with promise to supply symbolic ship of type for fan rides around rink during WI - MN games. Both Michigan schools object to being excluded.

Ohio State objects to close proximity of games to Ohio.

Penn State is rumored to have voiced an opinion. Nobody bothered to find out what it was.

I wasn't getting good reception, so didn't hear everything, but I thought that is what Louie was talking about. Women Gophs, Men Gophs and Wild (?) in TCF Stadium. I don't remember, has the NHL awarded the Winter Classic to the Wild to host? He mentioned the ice should be much better. He said he was near the ice for part of 1st and 2nd Period in Chicago and it was poor. Said in a short while he watched three Gopher rushes broken up by bad ice.

Just posting to apologize to you Gurt, as I think I got a bit too carried away and made a couple posts that were a bit uncalled for.

I really don't like these outdoor games, and all my reasons for disliking them came to a light this past Sunday.
Having it be "my team" involved coupled with having my (I think) legitimate criticisms relegated to the status of whining riled me up even more, and I let that blind me to some natural ribbing across fan bases.

So, just wanted to apologize, and say I still think you are more-or-less decent and semi-intelligent :p
