Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

RaceBoarder

Waiting for the Snow to fly...
Olympic Season is upon us... Olympic Trials are starting to roll in various sports...

Curling Trials will be on NBCSN all weekend... John Shuster still can't close out for crap...

Stumbled across the curling trials and remembered why I like Olympic years. Love that shuffleboard on ice. Go team Pottinger!

Please tell me that guy will not be at the Olympics...

I'm guessing that curling will be in the wee hours of the morning in 2014.

Win or lose, the Russian hockey team can go to hell. Hope they embarass the home crowd. :D

Yea, most events will be held "overnight" here in the US... Sochi is 9 hours ahead of the East Coast... Assuming that stuff will get going around 9am local time, that means that most events will be between Midnight and 6am... Skating and "prime" hockey games will probably be between 9am and Noon EST here...

Pretty much the worst time difference for being in the US... Hopefully NBC has learned their lesson and will have crap live for those of us that want to watch it... With the internet, I'm not even going to try and avoid things till primetime here... Spoilers will be unavoidable

I think it'd be great if he's at the Olympics. It lets every guy with a beer gut and a baseball cap believe that there's hope for a gold medal and Olympic glory:)

Ha ha! Cure for insomnia?

Seriously I'm so fired up about curling I even created a redundant thread about The Games XXII a few minutes back before I saw the word Sochi.

...

Ooh I almost forgot - shameless marketing ploy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QroBQ-TfTpw.
Also, Shuster is annoying.

Well sh*t, with the Picabo Wannabe out, it's not looking too great for the American skiers this time around.

Although Lindsey is the focus for the mainstream media, this is probably the most stacked the US Ski Team has ever been coming into an Olympics...

Mikaela Shiffrin should easily step out of Lindsey's shadow in Feb... She just won the World Cup Slalom in Levi, Finland by over a second... She also ran 6th at the Solden, Austira GS back in October... She's still pretty raw in speed events, so I dunno if she can threaten for a Combined medal, but she should be a favorite for the Tech events...

Julia Mancuso should be back for her 4th Olympics... Although age is catching up, she still has the potential to score in the speed events...

On the Men's side, Ted Ligety is hands down the favorite for GS Gold... He already claimed a World Cup title at Solden back in October... Ligety also should be near the top in Slalom and Combined... Bode Miller is gonna be Bode F*ing Miller... He will be a threat in any event he is entered in... Steve Nyman and Marco Sullivan have potential in the Speed Events...

Overall, I like our chances

Would like to note that on the Cross Country side Kikkan Randall is probably a favorite in the Women's Sprint as she won the World Cup Title in that event and won the World Cup event last year at Sochi. She also won the Team Sprint title at the World Championships.

The only cross-country skiing event that I like is the one with guns. Biathalon for the win!!! Do we have anyone good in the biathalon?
