  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

So the answer to the absolutely horrible performance of the board is close threads?

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Some closed threads had more than 6000 posts, some had a little over a 1000 and were less than a year old.

I'm really going to miss this place when its gone.

It might help though.

I would not be averse to flushing everything more than a year old, which for me is 90k posts and about 10 million words. Let's let the poor old girl shed a few pounds.

The real prize was the friends we made along the way.

But we should create a skype or email list of our addresses for That Inevitable Day. A few of you people are more important to me than extended family*, and I would hate to lose you.

Of course, this may already have happened, in which case, I'll just sit here in the corner.

*Don't get too excited, this is a low bar.

This used to be a regular thing a while back. In fact it was actually fun to see who would get the last post at times. It was a different message board vendor(?) at the time. When they moved to this message board company that auto closing of threads after hitting 1000 posts stopped. I’m ok either way. If it stopped those constant error messages and “server is too busy” messages, I’m all for it.

They used to migrate the last few posts too on one version so you could be last and first! That was a fun game!

I go to boards with threads in the tens of thousands of posts...this place is sad.

Hahahah I literally got the dreaded server error for five mins immediately after liking your post

Yeah the thread closing is lame as f##k and completely unnecessary.

If it makes the board run cleaner, close them after 500 or 100 posts for all I care. It doesn't mean they disappear. It's really not any sort of inconvenience. And in the old days it allowed us to quickly get past any threads titled by Flaggy.

I doubt it has any impact on board performance. If it did other sites running the same platform would be doing it, but I've never seen it anywhere else.
