Slu@rpi 1/27/12

Re: Slu@rpi 1/27/12

The good-almost everything. We score 4, our PK shuts them down, contributions from players who have not seen the score sheet. Another shutout for Bryce.
The bad-not much-but I was not feeling the love in that third period. We just allowed too many good shots against Merriam with a 4 goal lead. We just have to be a bit more of a team that can close teams down in the third period.
That being said-a very happy time in the RPI locker room for sure. I just reserve a little bit of judgement until we see how we play tomorrow. The euphoria is just not there yet.

1 goal allowed by Merriam in 9 periods of action. Has to be one of the better ECAC runs by an RPI goalie in some time...

Yah, his description was definitely very misleading. BTW, love the game reset updates.

Given random people in here (usually westerners) ask how much time is left, why not. Jericho-inspired because he loves the smilies. :) Although if I were to put shots up there, I'd probably have to do it in quintal.

Defense played well tonight. Merriam was outstanding in goal. If it didn't come across on the radio, but it probably did because Tim paints a great picture on play by play, there were some shots that I thought were going to end the shutout bid. He was there when he needed to be, but the defense was able to turn away most of the opportunities. RPI is still struggling to pass the puck. I know that seems weird coming off of a 4 goal victory, but SLU was able to constantly read RPI's plays and get their sticks/bodies in the passing and shooting lanes. RPI still has a hard time with the forecheck, and pressure on this team when RPI is trying to clear the zone will cause mistakes. There were times that I felt that even though SLU wasn't doing anything right other than backcheck really really well, they were beating and getting to loose pucks much better than RPI. In the third, it looked like RPI let up on the gas a little bit. SLU wanted to play a certain way in the third, and RPI helped them play that way. I don't think the shots that RPI let up in the last stanza were a product of bad defense, just helping SLU do what I mentioned dabove, and that was pressuring in the RPI defensive zone. No disrespect to SLU, but if they were a better team, RPI would have been on the short end of the stick tonight. RPI played well enough to win tonight, but there is still ALOT of room for improvement.
