Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I want to see Fredonia because I had to miss the game here early in the season and I haven't seen them play this year. Other than that, you beat who you have to play when you have to play them. Now that it is all on the line they should be flying and the only team in the league that can match their conditioning and intensity for 60 minutes is Plattsburgh. If Oswego plays their game (which has been a rarity), they can beat anyone in the conference and they can neutralize any hot goalie they might run into, so the match ups don't matter at all.

Backdraft your assessment of Saturdays game was is right on. Frday's game started out the same way and so hasn't the last 3-4 games that the Lakers have played. I don't know why the first 5-6 minutes they play not Laker hockey. Saturdays game was one of the best this year and even if Genny had the 2 injured startes in the line up I don't think it would have mattered. I spoke a bit with Coach after the game Saturday and that Monday practice after M'villes loss, was a big hellish to put it in kind words. It was great to see Hall playing for he played a really good game. There were some real surprise preformances this weekend from the blue collar guys like Kelly, Singleton, Hall, Titanic, Anderson and McConney. Also a hugh plus going in to the playoffs is that the D is coming together and playing very solidly which just makes Beckwiths job a lot easier. Lets hope this keeps going for atleast 5 more games.

yea with the 2 starters they were missing, dont think it would have been a difference......Ok bring on all comers, but would like to see platts in the final, but you know that whole saying about getting what you wish for......LETS GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing that matters for Oswego is that they are playing at home, they have to be on their game, and lastly they better know by now that everyone is gunning for them. Let the SUNYAC's begin and lets hope the best team wins. Not always the case though.
Hope to see everyone at the CC Saturday.

There is no hope for this party with Fredonia winning on Wednesday. Nothing can stop the Lakers when they play like they did this past weekend. Morrisville lit a fire that can burn deep into the playoffs, and whichever revenge or rivalry, I'm fine with Oswego hosting a high caliber team next Saturday. A week is not long enough to get rusty, but Platty or Morrisville humping it out and playing twice in the span of four days is a plus in my mind.

Sometimes the big games don't come with a title banner stretched across it - if the Lakers have to slug it out against either squad in the semis, so be it. Seeing Buff St or Genny in the final is for another night.

I know Oswego played awesome all week, but sometimes this team forgets there are TWO playoff rounds. :D

Beating anyone three times is hard, but beating Platty three times is even tougher. Plus, we all know Relkoff can carry the Mustangs and that team can score. Just saying that there is precedent for the Lake Show to tank.

Let the records show that we appreciate the scenario of knocking off Plattsburgh three times, but do not expect it all the time.

It can also be pointed out that history (recent and a few years back) dictates for the Lakers still to do remarkably well in the NCAA following an early SUNYACs exit (maybe even better), so it would not be the end of the world.

Beyond all that jazz though, let's just kick back and watch the action Wednesday. Saturday will be here soon enough - the Lake Show will dress to impress; no doubt.

I was just putting that out there about Kelly for those who can't get to all the games. He is another version of Levy a guy who works tirelessly for his team and never gives up. I agree if we had two or three more Kelly's this team would be really hard to beat on a bad night (like the Mo'ville game).

Definitely agree on this point. He's got Levy's motor all right.

I think he actually reminds me more of Dormiedy - I feel that their skill sets are extremely similar. During Dormiedy's freshman year, he was countlessly throwing his body in front of the puck in the defensive zone and blocked more shots than I can remember in the 2nd half of that season into the NCAAs. No doubt in my mind that his mindset and play were instrumental in bringing Oswego that National Championship.

Not to mention I think he was the best penalty killer on the team from 2007 through his senior season.

While he doesn't show up on the score sheet often, Kelly's play, effort and attitude should be greatly appreciated by the Oswego faithful and will be certainly be needed for the team to be playing well into March.

I like this idea - perhaps too soon to pull off for this playoff season, but what about next year's White Out???
Thoughts Laker Nation???

From the Platty thread.....

This sounds awesome Lou. I think you'd have one heck of a time trying to convince our AD to get on board tho

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Anyone have an idea when all conference selections will be made and anyone want to throw some names out there?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I don't know when the selections will be released but I can throw some names out there. Boots would now have to be considered a front runner for player of the year. Zachary Vit of Geneseo and Kevin Carr of Buffalo State are my front runners for Rookie of the year, I would go with Carr because of my bias towards goalies although Vit's numbers are very good. I would rather not have so many Fredonia players on there but they have the numbers.

1st Team
F Ian Boots-Oswego
F Zachary Vit-Geneseo
F Eric Satim-Plattsburgh
D Danny Scagnelli-Geneseo
D Mike Grace-Plattsburgh
G Paul Beckwith-Oswego

2nd Team
F Jordan Oye-Fredonia
F Justin Fox-Oswego
F Bryan Ross-Fredonia or Nick Petriello-Buffalo State
D Steve Rizer-Fredonia
D Taylor Vince-Morrisville
G Kevin Carr-Buffalo State
