I vote for BC being last. Based on what schedules are left to be filled I wonder who BC will be filling schedule with. (3 Maine and maybe Yale once)
Any one have an idea who else.

Maybe Mercyhurst. I hear they are looking to pick up a game on the weekend they are on the coast playing Maine. ;)

Re: Season Schedules 2010-2011

I was looking at the Dartmouth schedule and noticed that the season opener against Brown is scheduled during at 7 pm on Friday 10/29...right in the middle of the Dartmouth Night festivities (part of Homecoming). That's going to be changed, right? It'd stink for the players to miss out on a really great event, and also to play the season opener in front of about two people.

I admit this is partly me being selfish - I want to be able to go to the game - but it'd be absolute lunacy to keep that game at 7pm as scheduled.

Classes are usually cancelled on the Friday of Homecoming and/or Harvard football weekend (and this is both), so a nice 2pm game could actually get a good crowd up there.

Re: Season Schedules 2010-2011

It is on the schedule for 7:00pm, but will most likely go on as scheduled. The players most affected by this will be the incoming 14's, as they would miss the bonfire on the Green, among other activities. Our D missed the Dartmouth Winter Carnival all 4 years, which is held in February, because the team was traveling; so there are many different types of sacrifices made by varsity players.

If I know the town, they will be eagerly awaiting the first Womens' hockey game, and should still have a sizable crowd attending. Won't make it up for the Brown game, but will be at the Yale game on that Saturday.

Missing Carnival is one thing. Playing a home game at the same time as a major campus-wide event is very different.

I remember in the past, they've played a 4pm or 5pm game before the parade and bonfire. Hard to believe they wouldn't go that way again...unless the league wouldn't allow it.

Just curious. Who selects or negotiates the out of conference games, coach, AD, both or either?

Re: Season Schedules 2010-2011

It's pretty easy actually....someone has to make the first move, so:

Team A offers to play Team B

If Team B thinks they can beat Team A, they accept.

Team B is unsure if they can beat Team A, they accept only if they can play at home.

If Team B thinks there's no way in hell they can beat Team A, then they don't return the call. ;)

If Team A is desperate for a non-conference game and knows they'll get their butt kicked, then Team A offers up front to travel to Team B.

Did I leave anything out?

Most places the Head Coach has an Assistant or Director of Operations that is charged with the finding of available non-conference games. The Head Coaches usually discuss when a contract is ready to be signed or if there are unusual details included in the agreement. Then a Sport Administrator or the Athletic Director signs off for each team before the process is considered finalized. Some schools have different persons do the talking for their team (especially in D3), but in all cases the Head Coach and an Administrator from each school sign off (usually) before the game is put into the schedule.
