Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

Now I saw a fellow today in the financial district of New York dressed in a Michigan Tech sweater of all things. He was undoubtedly a tourist as there are many of those in that part of the city, but it's a certainly a rarity considering how common it is to see people wearing something with "Cornell", "NYU", "Harvard", "Michigan", or "St. John's" on it.
It wasn't me but I'm there a lot wearing my Tech hockey hat. Usually to be found near Lincoln Center however. Glad someone else is carrying the flag this weekend.

Dirk interviewing Blizzard T. Husky on the radio broadcast. Responds to both of Blizzard's 'answers' with "That's what I thought." Classic.

Congrats Tech, and good luck in Grand Rapids.

Next year marks the 90th anniversary of Nanook hockey...we aren't nearly as old as you geezers but we are getting there :D

Also good luck in the NCAA regionals...make the rest of us WCHA misfits proud!

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

I was listening to the live stream and it kept repeating so much that I finally gave up. Glad we won, glad we were pushed. Fade was right about Lowell. I guess BU didn't really have much to play for. A good bit of hockey on tap for tomorrow. Cornell vs Qpac, for one.

Thanks to other series, MTU will likely finish the weekend 15th in the pairwise rankings. For MTU to have a chance at an at-large bid, we'll need at least Northeastern and Minnesota-Duluth to go winless next weekend.

MTU hockey is 95 years old this season I think?

I was surprised (in a good way) that they let everyone on the ice after the game with the Cup. A few Misfits hoisted it. When the band came out, Mel went straight over to thank them. Too bad it could not have lasted longer but it was still a great moment for the fans that won't be forgotten.

For all their titles, how many times do you think the fans of UND, MINN, WI, DEN etc let their fans "skate the cup"? A moment like this is what makes the Huskies special and why they were worth supporting even when the team was winning 6 or 5 or 4 games in a season.

Not sure you could fit 10K on the ice...

Grrrrr....

Have a nice photo of everyone going out on the ice tonight, but can't get Photo Bucket to work in this forum. Works fine in the other forums I'm in, but can't get a picture to post here. Here, it changes to ********** and won't post.

Certainly a special moment. I'm glad there were many people able to enjoy a special moment like that and a great move by Coach to open the rink up like that.

Even so, from the pictures, there were maybe 500 people on the ice out of a crowd of 2500 or so I would imagine. Much different scale and community dynamic here in the Copper Country. That, is why that doesn't happen at other rinks....not to mention, we haven't won in a long, long time. The programs you mentioned have won more often and more recently, the luster is not the same there. Third, this trophy means more to us than it means to anybody else. We are the Trustees. At the end of the day, it's our Cup, has our history. Keep those things in mind.

It's more special to us than it is to most. Coach knows that, it's why he did what he did. He's always praised the fans and community first for backing the team. He's giving back in a way that only he could with the sense of gratitude he has for the community and fanbase, suffering through those 4, 5, and 6 win seasons. Tasting success, he wants everyone to have a seat at that table.

Northeastern will win the HEA tournament.

I think we'll need the Broadmoor. The way the ECAC is shaping up, could very likely be a bubble team that wins there. Plus, AHA, WCHA and BI6 autobids, could easily see the cut line being up around 12 this year.

While I do think it means more to us (Michigan Tech/Copper Country), I do think the MacNaughton Cup means a ton to everyone that's won it compared to any other trophy.

Likely because it's the hardest to win, outside of the NC. Or at least has been with the oWCHA. Still think it's pretty darn hard to win now too.

If you asked most people they'd probably say MTU will win the WCHA tournament, don't you think? Northeastern is on a roll, but it only takes one loss.

Re: Season 95, Vol 2: Michigan Tech '15-'16

All we can do is cross our fingers and hope we can win out to make it not matter.
