I saw a guy smoking outside the NHC a couple of weekends ago. He was wearing a Carhartt jacket. He might have been surverying the land, or just some maintenance man. You make the call (copyright TDS Metrocom)

I know they are starting this offseason and it is taking until summer 2013 to finish, but how much will be done this offseason? anybody know?

Interesting statement in The St. Cloud Times article that SCSU had to return the $6.5 million.

I understood that the general concerns over private funding matters in relation to the campus located public facility required return of these monies but SCSU was forgiven on the $1.7 million already spent on design costs, etc. The reason for the current and ongoing delays since last fall (when MMB opined as to what type of bonds could be used to finance reconstruction) was trying to find the additional $4.8 million. Also I understood that SCSU has received three (3) $1 million gifts rather than the one as implied in the article.

This whole mess stems from the fact that the National Hockey Center (NHC) was originally underfunded. In the 1980s, the Perpich administration wanted Minnesota to be central in training for United States olympic teams. So we had construction of the National Sports Center in Blaine, facilities added to Giants Ridge in Biwabik for skiing, and the NHC in St. Cloud. However, the NHC was not fully funded as proposed and, therefore, it was a "bare bones" facility without a front door and other basic amenities.

What construction can be done from now until fall before the 2012-13 season may still be a guess. I understood the initial construction would involve various structural matters as well as the entrance and lobby on the south side.

Instead of complaining about SCSU administration, I focus my concerns on the source of the ongoing underfunding of SCSU over many years and generations: Minnesota state legislators.

Thanks for the update on the renovation and expansion of the NHC. It has been a long time in the making. Great for the program, students, and fans and just in time to start play in the National.:D

Thanks for the kind words. I agree. It will be long overdue. Paged through a prospectus on the renovation tonight at a pre-game social before the Wild game tonight which they lost 3 - 1. At least Denver defeated the loser goofers. I'll see if I can get the prospectus put on-line so you can see it.
