SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

It was embarrassing to be a Huskie fan on Saturday night. Good or bad, rough play is a part of hockey. And SCSU didn't answer.

I have to agree here. St. Cloud plays about as tough as a high school girls team.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

The question was posed: do other schools hate St. C. like you hate us? Then he puts UW as #1 on his hate list. I replied that I don't hate St. C.
What was to misinterpret?

Apparently, exactly the point of the question posed.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

What I can't stand is the Huskies being intimidated and "run" out of their own building. These idiots (suzies) make their entire season on Marvin's hit on Genoway. Hakstol sends the least talented of all the Lameroux's (4th line wing) out to fight Marvin. Good for Marvin--he throws off the gloves, but PC linesmen step in and prolong the Marvin thing forever.

Then the Huskies decide not to play Marvin and go into a protective shell and get the snot kicked out of them. Zajac was the wuss that slashed Roe--and Hepp and Lauridson took care of business.

After the first 3 goals, Motzko HAS to pull Lee--for Lee's mental health and a message to the rest of the intimidated Huskies.

It was embarrassing to be a Huskie fan on Saturday night. Good or bad, rough play is a part of hockey. And SCSU didn't answer.

And don't play your captain if he is too sick to play!! This was the least-prepared team ever--when everyone in the world knew what the pseudo-tough Suzies would do. Why didn't our coaching staff??

Christ, Wisco and Mansucko must be licking their fricking chops.

Well said Boom, I couldn't agree more!

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Let them lick their chops, I for one am glad we didn't retaliate, there's no place for it.
In my opinion, that wasn't just rough play, we saw rough play against Anchorage and came out fine.
For me, that was well worse.
I think the coaches knew what the Sioux were going to do, but we aren't that kind of team and I'm sorry, but the Sioux are way down on our list of concerns and they should be.
They can win out and we can lose out and they will still be behind us in the standings, which is not true for our next opponent and we need our guys for that series.
I think they were trying to stay out of it because it's not worth it to lose guys either due to injury or suspension for the next series.
If that means people want to think we are intimidated, let them, I don't think that is the case.

This is all I am going to say to about his topic because I don't want to sit and argue with you for five days. When you think about what programs in this conference win championships, would they have sat back and got their as$ kicked like that or would have fought back? I guarantee you Denver, UND and Minnesota would have done something about it. Teams like SCSU and CC who seem to always have good teams never seem to do anything about it. Come playoff time they always bow out and never get the job done. Say what you want about what is right and wrong, pu$#y teams don't win championships......

Disclaimer: The 2001 & 2002 Husky teams were not soft, Dahl was an idiot. I am talking about teams under Motzko.....

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Sorry, but this is funny. Especially since we were just talking about UofM people thinking their school is so superior compared to St. Cloud or that if the players can't get in to a UofM or other school they can just go to SCSU. This is from the WCHA weekly column:

That's right, ZERO, not even one of their players qualify as a scholar-athlete. Really a tough year for gopher sports in all areas of life. :)

This is the most ridiculous post ever. They base the scholar-athlete thing on your GPA at your said university. When you go to an elementary school for college, your GPA is going to be pretty high.

Wow. Pitch a hissy fit, why don't you?

TB, couldn't agree more except that the "nonfight" was orchestrated by the goon coach of UND. He's willing to give up a non-essential player like Lamorioux for "revenge?" After my anger has subsided a little, I have come to see Bob's point of view, "what's the point." The "cheap fighting" soiux would not have nor would they ever feel that a fight or more cheap shots on their part would ever be enough to satisfy their supposed "revenge." I'm not at all happy with how we came out for that game Sat. night. The first pp convinced me that this team was not ready to play with any emotion or PRIDE. All us fans can do is get frustrated and vent, it's now up to this team to decide to take this thing by the throat, put a chip on their shoulder and take a majority of points (8), to finish as high as possible for several reasons: 1.) Home ice for the 1st round; 2.) Top 3 finish (preferably 2nd) for no play in game if they advance; 3.) St. Paul the weekend after the F.F. I am open for constructive critisism.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Line of the night Saturday:

After 2 and a half periods of an obnoxious Sioux fan chanting "We want Marvin" every two minutes an older gentleman turned around to him and said "What, are you some type of fa____?"

Everyone around laughed and the Sioux fan quickly shut his mouth.

On a side note, the Huskies sucked Saturday night!

:D

First off, if you read the postgame reports, Lammy volunteered to go with Marvin. He wasn't sent out by Hakstol. Lammy has been one of the rotating Assistant Captains on the team since Genoway went down, and it was his way of stepping up to the plate. Secondly, Marvin even said in the SCSU article that if the roles were reversed, that SCSU would be doing the same thing as UND. Thirdly, how exactly is Lamoureux non-essential?:

Lamoureux, 3g/5a for 8pts
Marvin, 4g/6a for 10pts

Pretty even stats with Marvin if Lamoureux is considered non-essential. :)

Line of the night Saturday:

VandeVelde 1 goal, 3 assists for 4 points

Line of the night. ;)

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

You do the math, then.

It's not difficult math.
You said:

They can't catch us in points even if we lose the rest of the games, and they win out.

UND has played 22 games and has 21 points currently.
SCSU has played 24 games and has 31 points currently.

If UND wins out, they will get 12 more points (6x2=12) for a total of 33 (21+12=33).
If SCSU loses out, they will get 0 points (4x0=0) for a total of 31 (31+0=31).

See, not too difficult at all. :)

Here's the thing. Hackstol knew Motzko was to gutless to do the same thing. Why didn't he throw his 4th line guy out there to do the same thing. I said on here(or our site) before the game that if I was Motzko I would put Ryan in the line up for his physical play. If he does that then he has a boogard type to protect his top guys and it won't matter if he gets thrown out. I get why he didn't want Hepp or Oslund thrown out for the game and next game, but thats why you plan ahead. It didn't take a genius to see this coming. You can say it is bush league all you want, he got out coached.

In the end it's not like this loss means much if they learn from it. The problem I have is Motzko has to change for them to learn from it and I just don't set that happening. I know this is college hockey, but these things still happen and as a coach you have to know how to deal with them. He has shown over his 5 years how he deals with it and in the end it only hurts the team. I like what Motzko has done with the program since he took over, but until he proves he can take this team to the next level I am going to have my doubts and his style of play.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

I think some of you trigger happy fans need to sit back and take a deep breath.

1. UND was a desperate team heading into this series. After Fridays loss they had 1 win in seven contests. What did you expect? They needed to do what they had to do to get a win. Otherwise, they would be precariously close to MN / UAA territory in the standings. They worked themselves into a frenzy over the Genoway thing. They needed a rallying point to overcome team frustration. They HAD to play physical. They had no choice. They were willing to sacrifice their next game with UMD to get back on track. It worked. More power to them. Anyone that has played hockey understands this.

It did not make sense to lose Marvin, our best defensive player or others for the Wisconsin series. Thus, Motzko's comments about the matter.

UND will now have to overcome the emotional hangover to get ramped up for UMD on Friday.

2. SCSU came into this series with 4 emotional games with MN and CC and a very physical series with UAA. Then, two more very physical games with UND. Beleive me, these guys are beat up right now. 4 very physical games in 8 days will do it to you. Why do think Motzko is giving them Mondays off? This has been a grind. Anyone who has been an athlete understands that no matter how much you WANT to succeed there are times when physically and mentally you can't get it done.

3. Granted, they folded the tent in period two on Saturday. You can say what you want about Friday. However, they still won and came from behind to do it even though they looked like a fatigued team in the third. Please don't say these guys don't play with PRIDE. Every player that puts on the SCSU jersey has pride in who they are playing for.
Don't use emotion and pride interchangeably.

4. This team has exceeded every expectation for them thus far this season. I'm very proud of these guys.

5. The team needs to recharge the tank. Unfortunately, their break comes after the Wisconsin series not before. This will be a huge test for the team physically and emotionally.

One last comment. Regardless of some of the ridiculous comments on here there is not a better relationship in college hockey as there is between SCSU and UND fans. Those that don't beleive it haven't been around long enough or spent enough years enjoying this rivalry with the UND fans to understand it.

It was a highly emotional series and very entertaining. Stuff to talk about until the two teams meet again. No one got hurt and both squads got two points. It only adds to the tradition of competition between these two teams. That is what is great about college hockey.

 yeah because a team can admit a coach told him to do it. Do you realize what would happen if Hakstol said he order a code red.:D Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Like it or not it is part of the game. What I don't like is gutless wonders slashing people in the back, spearing or head hunting to try and hurt someone. The NHL doesn't have many problems because fighting takes tht stuff away. If someone does it they are going to get their ***** kicked and that is the way it should be.

Marvin isn't a goal scorer. He has been on the ice for something like two goals all year on the penalty kill. He also is physical guy on the top line.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Why is this always the default SCSU response?
Relax a bit, we're just posting on a message board. :)

Exactly. Marvin seems to have owned up to the Genoway hit though, so he gets some respect back in my book.

Sounds pretty much the same as Mario, just that he plays on the 3rd/4th line instead of the 1st.
