SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Impressive showing for the Huskies tonight. There were sequences in the game during which DU was very competitive--cycling, puck possession, and generating some good chances. But ultimately, the better team won. SCSU had jump all night, had better goaltending, more depth, and finished when they needed to. That's a good squad. They were not overly physical, but they move the puck well and skate well.

Brittain will have to be better tomorrow night and DU needs to stay out of the box.

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

The other thing that jumped out at me tonight was SCSU won a ton of draws. I haven't seen the stats but if felt like they won 80%.

Yeah I think your right, but the percentage was more like 60% - 40%. St. Cloud's forward, David Morley, may be one of the best at faceoffs in college hockey.

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Man the Cloudies are a way better team! Hands down the best team that we've seen at Magness this year. The puck movement of the first two lines is so much better than anything DU has going on. DU's first line was completely ineffective (no chemistry/gel). I expect SCSU will get the sweep tomorrow night. DU falls to something like 28th in the PWR with the loss--one spot ahead of Brown which sounds about right. I think there could be a lot of critical things I could say about DU's execution but one big thing on my mind is a rookie coach isn't going to be able to prepare a team to face a squad as good as this. I expect to see some adjustments to the D tomorrow night but given the lack of discipline and ability to produce any kind of lasting offensive pressure generated by forwards, a team as good as the Huskies are going to run the table. They already can taste it.

KVSC was saying his arm was in a sling, so maybe a shoulder thing.
Hopefully it's just a one week if it keeps him out tomorrow.
Balanced scoring again, 2 point nights for Dowd, Brodz, Murray, Gravel, Prochno, 3 point night for Morley.
Definitely showing you can't focus on one line with this team.

I listened to Terhar's call as well but did not hear that about Benik. However, Dan did comment that DU seemed to want to run or CFB the St. Cloud players after a score. Not sure how DU got away with that for the entire game. Motzko better chew Bokol's ear about it before tomorrow's game.

A win tomorrow could really put St. Cloud in a commanding lead in the NCHC with games in hand already to second place Nodik.

KVSC is the student station, not Terhaar

Dan's statement is BS; that's why DU "got away with it." The game was as well officiated as onegets in college hockey and the better team won. I will say, however, that DU was game tonight and probably deserved a better outcome than the score indicates. SCSU desreved the win, but Idon't think the final score reflects DU's effort tonight.

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Sounds like the ice was crappy and the Pios were chippy. Hope Benik is OK, or there might be a cold dish served tomorrow by St. Cloud.

Strange that they only late-hit Joey and Jonny and didn't go anywhere near Kevin Gravel. ;)

(Yes...I know that goal got changed to Brodz...Kevin did the work)

I dunno... in the 2nd period there were about 3 straight shifts that may have been DU's best all year. Which led to a PP. Which did nothing. After that, for a solid 10 minutes, DU players looked slow, lazy, and outworked. The goal to make it 3-2 was barely deserved, in my opinion. Had trouble getting through the neutral zone all night long, especially in the 3rd.

I do think that players from both sides got away with a LOT on the boards tonight. The 2 minute boarding for a hit on Makowski was borderline 5. And I'll admit that DU had some questionable hits as well. But I think the game was called evenly. I strongly believe that a ref's first job is player safety, so I don't like it when no-calls happen either way, but it didn't affect the outcome at all.

St. Cloud is as good as I suspected. I think they're better than Minnesota from what I've seen on TV. Not to say it's impossible for DU to salvage a split, but we'll have to play very, very well all night long in order to do so.

Statistically speaking, DU has plenty of faceoff skill too. But you wouldn't have known that.

I just hope they don't get too ahead of themselves and overlook bad teams like they've been pretty good at in the past. They feel like a really good team who can do as well, if not better, than last season. Fun to watch!

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

According to the "Highlights" of the game last night, Denver beat SCSU 6-0. Really? They couldn't show 1 of the SCSU goals? Jeez I know its a DU production or whatever, but good highlights show ALL the important parts of a game.

I don't see them overlooking anyone in conference play and all we have left besides that is the North Star and the NCAA's so I don't see them overlooking anyone.
They kow that anyone in this conference can be a tough out, regardless of record.

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Good Morning. I'm wondering what Husky fans are thinking about the decision to start Lindgren in goal last night? I can't for the life of me figure out why the coaching staff would have even entertained the thought? Secondly, does anyone have any insight into what was going down post game between the two head coaches during the handshaking line? Motzko was ****ed and was giving it to Monty.

Re: SCSU @ DU: Too cold to fly, let's take the dogsled

Some are probably ****ed about it, I think the team needed to respond with him back there and they didn't.

THIS Husky fan is as confused with Lindgren starting as you are! And don't think I am in the minority of SCSU fans. If Lindgren plays great, the coach is a genius. But on this night it didn't work out so good.

Our loveable coach Bob Motzko does get a little excited once in a while. Just a guess, but from reports on the game, it seemed Denver "ran" our top three offensive players--Joey Benik, Nic Dowd and Jonny Brodzinski. Benik is out for probably a month. Motzko was probably telling Monty that real teams don't run players after they score. Like I said, just a guess . . .

I didn't see the game last night, but I saw some comments after Friday's game to the same effect. I don't like seeing this, because this isn't the type of culture I want DU to have. But on Friday night I think it went both ways, and I think there were a lot of no-calls- which isn't okay, a ref's first job is player safety.

But I hope at least in terms of action and reputation that there's some SCSU bias here and DU wasn't out "running" top lines to gain an advantage. Like I said, I didn't see it, but that's what I'm hoping was the case.

Didn't sound like our guys liked some of the actions of Didier this weekend.
I'm fairly certain Oliver would have dropped with him if it was allowed.

He took a couple big hits on Friday, which is rare, so at least there's that.

Yes. Fistfights solve everything. I shudder to think of what Oliver would have done if he had a rocket launcher handy.
