SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

Who's had a guy suspended for a dirty hit more recently? UND or SCSU?

It's a trick question. St. Cloud hasn't hit anyone yet this year.

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

Must we argue people? Why can't we have civil discourse of the upcoming matchup between two quality ice hockey programs? I believe Mr. Siouxfan, Mr. Love and Mrs. FTLT should hug it out and schedule a brunch together for Saturday. While last year's incident was indeed unfortunate, I think we should all work hard on letting it go and I think it's all of our jobs to help accomplish this. I just hate to see people not get along and it looks like that might happen in this thread if we continue down this most unfortunate road. :(

In the words of Ari Gold "Hug it out *****"

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

So what are you trying to say? Marvin is an angel this year because he was suspended twice last year for causing concussions and he hasn't hurt anybody this year? Yes, UND has taken majors this year but they haven't chased a player the entire length of the rink with intent of smashing their head into the glass. The hits that they have made were the result of the speed of the game, not deliberate dirty play. The major penalties that have been called this year in the WCHA are in part a result of the hit on Genoway by Marvin.

I guess skating from the blue line to the end board is the entire ice in north Dakata.:D The funny thing is if Marvin hits Brad" I have less than half the talent my cousin has" Malone last year nothing happens but a 5 minute major. Genoway is small and it was a fluke how he got hurt, live with it. As The Sioux have seen 5 minute majors happen all the time and as much as they are not right, good players make mistakes. The Sioux seem to always have many more of them than the Huskies every do every year and you don't hear me complaining. Hell you don't even hear Denver complaining and the kid had his neck broken from a head shot from one of your guys.... But hey, if you guys want to play that way it is no sweat off my back.:) Killer is coming, your team better watch out!!!:D

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

Thanks. New rules are a step in the right direction. But UNO coach Dean Blais did voice a valid concern.

Blais, though, cautions that there is a thin line with judgments on what a penalty is.

“An obvious head shot, you’re going to cause concussions,” said Blais, who said his team is the biggest (in height and weight) in Division I hockey. “They just have to determine if it is a head shot or if a player is ducking underneath a check. They need to allow players who are bigger to play the game.

“We don’t want hockey turned into a basketball game.”

Rules do seem to discriminate against taller players.

The intresting one for me was the SCSU trainer saying the team gets 2-4 concussions every season since he's been there.
Makes me wonder if that's average for the rest of the NCAA or what.

Bad things can happen when a much bigger player hits a smaller player. Perfect example is the Marvin hit on Genoway. Marvin hit Genoway when he was flush against the boards from behind and because Marvin is 6'3 and Genoway is 5'8 he crushed his head. If Genoway was 6'3 he would not of even been hurt. In the NHL that is a 2 minute penalty because he was flush against the boards, not the five minutes it is in college. Any way you look at it is was a penalty, but when a much bigger player hits a smaller player it multiply's the hit at least by two times.

The players are so big now players are going to continue to get hurt and in many ways there is nothing anybody can do about it unless you take hitting out of the game and that won't happen. The Hit Marvin put on the Badger player last year and the hit Malone put on the Denver player this year are proof bigger stronger players making clean hits are hurting players. I was hit at least twice when I played with my head down that put stars in my head and kept me down for while on the ice, but thank god the players hitting me were not strong enough to do the damage these guys can do. Kids today are just a lot bigger and stronger than they use to be. Back in my day a big high school offensive lineman in football was 250 pounds, now they are well over 300......

True.

How did SCSU look in their last series? I'm hoping last year's grab *****ing is over and a well fought/played weekend of hockey. The last thing either one of our teams need is another hurt player or suspension, maybe Chay and Marvin take a page out of Jesse Martin's book and shake hands or slap *****es before the game to officially squash this mess.

All I know is that PumpItUp will be wearing his Sioux shirt this weekend like the traitor he is :D! What do you say pubic wig? Losing team buys drinks?

The Huskies played in alaska and split. The coach says they played well and had some bad luck in the OT loss friday night. In general the team has looked like dog poop. I believe they have giving up two goal leades two times in the third period this year and at least two other times didn't even bother to try the entire game. Needless to say I don't see the Huskies doing to well this weekend.:(

Are both these games going to be on FCS this weekend?

North Dakota: Where it's so flat you can watch your dog run away for 3 days...

I do not understand why you are taking such a negative view on North Dakota. Both North Dakota and St. Cloud are wonderful places. Hopefully one day you will realize this and will appreciate North Dakota. I believe in you and think that will occur.

Hey, if I partake in a drinking game, can I be partnered with Lady wore Black? (no offense DL :D)

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

The whole "tall guys are at a disadvantage" is just a lame flimsy excuse for lumbering clods who don't know what they're doing (looking at you, Pronger). Zdeno Chara is like 7 feet tall and he doesn't get called for shots to the head.

Re: SCSU at UND battle for the headshot rule

I was at the Friday night UND-ND game, and before the game i told the wife Gregs get 3 pts! and it happened, so lets try again for this Friday night and Kristo gets 4 pts 2 goals 2 assist.. and the flood gates open... SIOUX SWEEP
