SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

I agree they are extremely deep and balanced. Some may argue that Michigan has a better offense, but they are very top heavy and one line does most of their scoring. Then there's the defensive side of Michigan's game which is not good, but I digress. The Huskies have generally had some good offensive teams in the past, but the element of adding a great goalie and a good overall team defense this season, all having played a tough schedule most of the season, has made this season look much different. Course, there's always Boston College out there and you can't discount what the Q has done either (including sweeping St Cloud).

Yes Q swept us...but we were without Prow and we still had a young D at the time.
I'd love to see that matchup in Tampa.

Michigan is deeper than just 1 line. They are one of the best offensive teams I have ever seen in all my years of watching college hockey.
Is SCSU deeper? I'm not so sure. Maybe. Even if they are I don't think it makes up for the ridiculousness of Michigan's top line. But still, if you look at goals-per-game:

Players averaging more than a goal every 4 games -
Michigan: 9
St. Cloud: 7

Players averaging more than a goal every 3 games -
Michigan: 6
St. Cloud: 6

Players averaging more than a goal every other game:
Michigan: 2
St. Cloud: 2 (actually 1, but we'll count Russell)
For Michigan those two players have 24g and 28g in 28 games played. For SCSU those two have 16g and 19g in 32 games played.

But point taken on the goaltending and defense, although Racine has been showing better form over the 2nd half.

This isn't to discredit anything SCSU has done. They have had a fantastic season, against a tougher schedule, and I consider them the best team in the country right now. I'm just saying if you think Michigan is only 1 line you are badly mistaken. And if Michigan decides to start turning in complete 60 minute games rather than 15-20 minute offensive whompings on any given night, it would be tough to pick against them.

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Why wouldn't you count Russell?

Was going by the arbitrary criteria of "more than", and didn't count anyone else from either team who had exactly 2, 3 or 4 gpg in the other comparisons.

EDIT: er, I meant to say exactly .25, .33, .5 gpg.....

Yes, Michigan has been playing better in the second half of the season when they started playing more B1G Mistake games and few out-of-conference opponents.

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Goals per game point to Michigan's offense being better than ours. I would disagree based on strength of schedule, but does it really even matter? If St. Cloud doesn't have the best offense in the country, they have the 2nd best.

Michigan would be my preferred 2 seed in whatever region we end up in. If Wisconsin and Ohio State can put up 6 on them, SCSU could probably get to double digits.

SCSU's offense is deep. Michigan's offense may be deeper. It's not hard for me to admit. However...

Lindgren >>>>>>>> Racine

I'd love for SCSU to play Michigan in the Tourney. At 11 goals, I'll take the over. 8-4 SCSU.

But as we learned in the North Star Cup Classic, it's more important to look at the trend form the last five games played than anything else, regardless of opponents played.

My primitive mind forgot about that. SCSU 4-1-0 with 22 goals in the last 5 games. Michigan 3-1-1 with 19 goals. Case closed.

I don't think you understand what was being said

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Somehow someway I'm looking forward to attending the UMD games this weekend. I'd be surprised if SCSU did anything less than 4 points this weekend. This UMD team just can't score. I'm sure SCSU is thinking of how UMD swept them in the building last year, not gonna let it happen again.

I don't like the fact that UMD played as well as they did and came away with no points in North Dakota. This series scares me.

I hear that but am pretty pessimistic about it meaning anything in the end. They've played well in many series and came away disappointed. I think SCSU sweeps

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Well that would be 6 points, not 4. ;)

:D yes but I wouldn't be surprised if UMD wins in a shootout or 3x3 OT. I would be shocked if we split and least surprised with an SCSU sweep.
