SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Got it going after a bit of a sloppy start. Need to finish the deal tonight. Looking forward to the North Star next weekend. Pretty clear who the best team in the state is. Would like to see them show that on the ice. Mankato is better than the first time we saw them this year. Outside of the outburst last night, they haven't been scoring a ton of goals though. Minnesota is also playing better than when we saw them last. We'll see if that is more about them playing lesser opponents in the B1G or just that they're playing better. Think Bemidji isn't much of a threat, but they've shocked in this tourney before. Let's get a Cup and more importantly hold our PWR spot.

6-3 after two periods, 3 for 3 on the power play. Except for the one soft goal, I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I think we match up well against Western Michigan...

Amen. Season sweep for St. Cloud over the Broncos!

It should be a good game against Kato on Saturday.

Good to have 20 wins this early in the season for PWR. Tough to see them not make the NCAA tournament even if they play .500 from here out.

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

The boys finished the season series scoring a combined 31 goals against WMU, and it could've been more if Motzko hadn't been a gentleman and called off the dogs. Very impressive.

At this rate they're probably hoping to draw UND in the playoffs if they finish 7th or 8th.

Just dinking around on the CHN website looking at stats. I thought we had an older team, maybe because our top 5 scorers are all seniors. But basically only Boston College has a younger team than we do. Average age of 21.11 doesn't seem that young to me, but along with 6 other teams we are right behind BC for having the youngest team. So if you didn't already feel good enough about the program, there is another positive.

That is something. Was looking at where the scoring is coming from as well. And then looked at what this group of seniors has done so far in their careers. 20 wins each of their four years with a shot to go over 30 this year. This the first time SCSU has ever had four 20 win seasons in a row. Would only be the second time going over 30, if it happens. Second time of getting an NCAA berth four years in a row (likely to happen). First team to win three straight opening round NCAA games. First SCSU team to make a Frozen Four. First SCSU team to win two regular season conference titles and there is a chance of adding a third.

Impressive group of seniors, no doubt. The question is can the classes following them keep it up? Junior class in Lindgren (come back for your senior year!) and Nevalainen are key contributors. Russel, Peterson and Winiecki are solid contributors as sophomores. And the freshman class has been solid as well. Eyssimont, Newell, Jackson and Schuldt are already contributing in a big way.

I mean, we're no UNO, but there are some bright things on the horizon for this program.

That age stat does pleasantly surprise me. The senior class this year are all big contributors, but it looks like we have some talent to fill in for them after they leave.

Re: SCSU 2015-2016 Season: This Year Is Our Year

Ok. One day away. Although all signs are pointing to a good chance at a couple of wins against two teams SCSU has already swept, why am I not feeling terribly confident?

Because both teams are playing better now than when we swept them. Regardless of that, assuming we don't see a game like what happened with CC, winning the tournament should be the expected outcome.

That is exactly the point. Maybe it's playing on the smaller sheet. Our guys aren't as physical, that doesn't play to their advantage. I agree that winning both games is the expected outcome. Time to make a statement.

Talked to many SCSU fans after tonight's tournament win. Great excitement for the future of this team's prospects in the NCAA tournament.
