Huskies win game #1 5-2, SOG SCSU 55-24. Not a perfect game, but I'm happy with how we played. Play like this again tomorrow and we should be fine.

Midway through the 2nd period, Huskies lead 3-1 thanks to three shorthanded goals on a 5-minute major. They had been playing pretty sloppy up until then.

Huskies win 9-3 to complete the sweep with four shorthanded goals, a new school record. One of the craziest Husky hockey games I've seen.

Good final two periods. That's the way to finish. Bring on the team they hammered in the regular season. Sweep next weekend should lock up a #1 seed. Win the Frozen Faceoff and they'll be playing in St. Paul.

The old school record of 3 SHGs in a single game was actually a hat trick put up by George Awada back in '98. He was in my Stats 224 class that term and the professor couldn't stop talking to him about it while waiting for the students to finish filling the room. I don't remember the opponent, but it was a road game, so nobody on campus really had a chance to see it.

George Awada scored THREE shorties against Michigan Tech--Valentine's Day, 1998. This was at the Concrete Center. Final goal won the game for the "Good" Huskies!!

Does anyone else think its dumb that we beat DU for the tiebreaker when they have one more tie than us and we have one more loss? I would be really upset if I was a DU fan.

Huh. I missed so few home series that year that I just thought Awada's SHG hat trick was during a road series. Remarkable how the memory skews things eighteen years down the line.

And I didn't think that that would come into play since we only played them twice instead of four times. I am perfectly ok with head to head being a factor, but I think I'm thinking of WCHA days where I thought a 2 game series didn't count as a tiebreaker. I'd be upset if I was DU and that was the tiebreaker and we'd lost in St. Cloud, but getting swept at home by the team you end up tying leaves you little to complain about.

Again, think its weird though that we finish higher than someone with a better record than us.

But it's not a better record. Our 3 on 3 win is part of the record. Just as both of their 3 on 3 losses are part of the record.

I actually still have all of my early ticket stubs from that era. I went back and saw that I was at the February 13th game against MTU...but for some reason missed the game the next night.

Were you not a student in 1998? The only games for which I have tickets stubs for games back then are Gopher games. All others would just have our student IDs scanned and walk on down to our seats. I don't know if things have changed since then. Based upon student section attendance, I'd say that the only difference now is the series for which tickets are actually issued to students changed to UND.

2005-2009 was just like that. You'd have to get Gophers, (sometimes) Sioux, and WCHA first round tickets in advance and were issued a physical ticket, all other games just show up with your student ID.

Ok, maybe getting ahead of myself, but assuming things go chalk in the first round (UND, SCSU, Denver, UMD)...

Do you think UND will opt for the afternoon game on Friday of the Frozen Faceoff? Think the thought last year was to play early and get the most rest leading up to the championship game last year. Seeing how that didn't work out for them last year, wonder if they'll switch it up.

I get the rest thing but from a fan perspective, I'd rather have the night game. Don't have to leave work early to get to that 4pm start in the early game.

If they took the early game last year, I'd assume they do again. Its not like they're gonna go "afternoon game didn't work for us, better switch it up"
