I will be making the trek to the Taj McRalph
Be nice if SCSU can get a victory up there for the first time in a long time

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

I was thinking the same thing??? I thought St. John's was the local football team?

On a different topic, am I the only one a little nervous that so few of our recruits appear to be putting up the kind of early junior or pre-college numbers that we would like to see them put up (other than Benik in that JV league he "decided" to play in, and Milan)?

I'm also curious to see what happens to the lines this week. I am assuming that Novak and Eddy will be in the line-up, at least one of the nights each. Who does it leave out? Pecks, Ryan, AND our new winger Ammerman? I see UND gave up only 3 goals to MTU in Houghton this past weekend in a sweep and put up 4 PP goals on the weekend. Time to tighten up.

Not really, Jensen and Gravel are defensemen and while Jensen was a scorer last year, that hasn't been his role so far this year.
Gravel is expected to be a defensive defenseman so he likely won't put up numbers.
Dowd is leading Indiana in points per game but was just gone for 4 games for the World Junior A challenge, along with Gravel and Jensen so his numbers are a bit misleading as he's played less games.
Oliver and Ravndalen have been used as defensive forwards on their respective teams mainly being used against the opponents top lines and on the PK and neither has seen much in the way of PP time though at least for Ravndalen, his ice time has increased and his scoring could pick up as a result.
I also think a lot of the "prime" scoring we are going to get the next couple seasons is already on the team in guys like Festler, Hanowski, LeBlanc, Eddy, Novak, Roe, Marvin, maybe Christian and possibly even Mosey and Volpei depending on how they progress this season.

Football is the biggest wate of money at SCSU. The football team might as well be a non-revenue woman's team for how much money they lose. If the school was smart they would dump football like Denver did.

And tick off every football donor the school has? In this econominic climate? I don't think so.

What football donors? Before they moved to the new on campus stadium they had less than 200 season ticket holders..... Even now I they probably have less than 2,000.

You don't have to be a season ticket holder to be a donor to the athletic department and school. Athletes on average will donate more money back to the school than the average student. Donations can be sent by check.

Yeah I realize that, but I am pretty sure they don't get much in donations for the football team. I know one family donated the score board for the football field and both video screens for the NHC. Of course the football field scoreboard is crap and the video screens in the NHC are sweet.:D Football is not big at SCSU and never has been. I guess I could be wrong, but I highly doubt big donors for the school would care if the football team went away.

The big donors that don't really sweat to drop say 10,000 a year for SCSU, probably not, as they are more likely the Hockey fans. But I bet there's a lot more donors that are donating around 1,000 dollars a year that would be upset if SCSU dropped football. You would be upsetting say a hundred donors that in total, give 100,000 dollars to mildly please 10 donors that in total donate 100,000. Those big donors are just going to say that's nice, but how does that improve St. Cloud Hockey?? I'm going with rough numbers here, but I'm sure that you can see what I'm saying here.

This is what I know about donations to SCSU sports. In no way do I know everyting or exact figures but I think this says a lot. A couple years ago all of the other sports(especially football) were begging the AD to have one all SCSU sports booster club basically because they couldn't raise money. Hockey was against it because they do well in fund raising and didn't want the other sports to get any of their money. The football team shows a huge loss in revenue every year. If they were getting a lot of donations or support I would think we would hear about it. Instead I hear how they lose to much money and cost to much to support a winning team.

Last time we got a win at the Ralph was when we swept in 2006, and it has been too long, but its not THAT long ago. Ask MTU or UAA fans last time they won in St. Cloud. Besides, two years ago we needed 2 points in the last week to get home ice, and got two ties, so two ties equaled a win for us then. :D

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Add Brandon Burrell to the list of commitments.
I knew they were looking at him. I was hoping he was going to switch to the USHL, but Des Moines held his rights and not a lot of players like what they've heard about that program.

The nice thing is, as long as he was going to stick with the NAHL, Wenatchee is the best place to be. There's no surprise that he's the second leading scoring defenseman in the NAHL, that's definately his style.

I could see him as a 2010 or a 2011, but if he's a 2011, it'd be nice for him to spend a year as an overager in the USHL.

how old is this kid?

May 7th, 1990. He graduated in '08, so he was out of school all last year while he was playing in Wenatchee. He's a proven player in juniors, the kind of solid guy that has limited downside. Actually, this is the kind of player the goofers need.

I don't care what anyone says, it's too early to start a "Fire Bob Motzko" thread.

I have never seen him play, but playing in the NAHL at 19 doesn't impress me at all. Hopefully he is not just another so so Motzko defensive recruit.
