SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Appears to me the Republicans will go ahead with the committee vote tomorrow and my guess is Flake is the first to cave. Then on Tuesday it will be Collins, Murkowski.
The last two are probably in a lose lose situation. They **** off a lot of the people who voted for them with a no vote and fuel the opposition with a vote to confirm.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

You know what I love...when Ford made her "demands" for how she would testify some said how it wasnt fair because Kavanaugh wouldnt be able to rebut what she said. Obviously he didnt think so because he didnt even watch her testimony he just worked on his. I dunno, maybe it is just me but I would have wanted to know what she was saying so I could refute it, that is the whole point of going second.

With the President coming out full force, and Turtle Boy they will confirm him in the next week. Not a doubt in my mind.

What did he say?

Apologized to Kavanaugh for the process and said it's not possible to make a judgement with any certainty. Made me think that he was assuring Kavanaugh that a no vote doesn't mean certainty of guilt. Of course that interpretation could turn out to be totally wrong.

Dem senators might want to address this at some point.

I don't remember that time a girl was assaulted upstairs at the frat house either. I was downstairs drinking.

You bet it is. Unless hubris does you in.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

I used to love Brit Hume...found him to be quite good doing the news. He, like Chris Wallace, sold out. Though because Wallace knows someone who has dealt with DC D-bag Date Rapists he actually is on the right side of this issue.

Agreed. Except for the Chris Wallace part. I think Wallace still has some journalistic credibility. I wish he had left that dreck of a company like Major Garrett a long time ago. Garrett is clearly a conservative, but he's a conservative with a brain.

If Flake votes no in committee, doesn't that kill it from proceeding to the full Senate? Presuming all the Dems also vote no?

Regarding Kav, looked like someone told him to tone down the rage for the latter half of that hearing. After he came back from being a doosh towards Kloubacher.

Correct. Flake is the first hurdle. Then the floor vote.

Apparently, the crying won't be an issue. Fat Nixon loved him.

President Trump is "riveted" and telling people, "This is why I nominated him," in a positive way, per person close to him. Mitch said they were having a vote on the floor regardless of how the vote goes tomorrow. I'm guessing it's just a courtesy or maybe it takes a rules change at most.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

The last two are probably in a lose lose situation. They **** off a lot of the people who voted for them with a no vote and fuel the opposition with a vote to confirm.

A no vote and they keep their jobs. (because the next candidate will likely not be a date rapist) They vote yes and the only people that will support them are Trumpers. 2 years of commercials showing how these women screwed over women by confirming an alleged predator is a lot. They would be trading in any chance they have to pretend to be a moderate going forward.

They can be McCain here and do the right thing for the wrong reason. McCain didnt vote against repealing ObamaCare because he wanted to protect the people losing their benefits, he did it to stick it to Trump and so he could say "see I dont always vote with Trump!" while voting with him on everything else. Collins and Murkowski can do the same thing. They can vote no and be heroes and basically cruise to re-election. They get to play up the "moderate" angle, they get to say they protect Women's Rights and get to say "See, we arent always with Trump!". Meanwhile next year they can vote yes on whoever comes in and they win. Sacrfice the pawn to take the Queen next move...

If I am a GOP strategist I am telling both of them to tell Mitch they are voting no but will confirm whoever is next. Then I start the ads already talking about how bipartisan and moderate they are. They vote no the GOP keeps the Senate so they will be in great shape. They confirm they risk the Senate and their jobs.

note: I expect them to vote yes, I just think if they were smart they would take the long approach to this and vote no.

I agree with everything you're saying here but if they vote no and **** off the Trumpers that's a large percentage of their base, which is why I think it's a lose lose. Not that I care because ******* them.

Wallace hasnt been the same since Trump won. In many ways he is unrecognizable.

Pretty sure the Senate can vote on confirmation even if the Committee says no. Usually dont do it though because the nos in Committee will be nos on the floor.

Ah, I haven't seen him since the debate. He was very good moderating the debate. I thought he did the best out of all of the moderators.

Collins can survive in Maine without the Trumpers. She would keep all women and independents along with the non nutsos. Voting for #angrycryer will alienate a lot of women and all Independents.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Well, it's over. I stand by my comments from before. This was the wrong way to do this and I do not understand what the Republicans are thinking.

They bluffed, and got called on their bluff. They completely screwed themselves.

Agreed he did very well in the debate to the point I think Trump was getting mad at him. Once Trump won though he was all in. Now part of that is probably his contract with Faux but still.

If he left Faux my guess is though he would be very vocal against Trump unlike Megyn Kelly who left Faux and tried to pivot but failed epicly at it.

Pumped up rage and indignation from the Senators was not a bad strategy, but from him? Not good. And that's partly why the Sens had to go all out--so K didn't stand out as unhinged.
