Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Orrin Hatch criticizing people for being partisan...without a hint of irony.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

I saw this interesting thing on Facebook today. It was a story about a talk someone gave and he drew a line on the board and put males on one side and females on the other. He then asked the male side how much time they spend every day on preventing themselves from being sexual assaulted.

You can easily extrapolate from there.

Interesting from our Canadian friends at UBC and Simon Frasier. Admittedly the subject is "violence" and not sexual based violence.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Flake:

“After hearing more than 30 hours of testimony from Judge Kavanaugh earlier this month, I was prepared to support his nomination based on his view of the law and his record as a judge. In fact, I commented at the time that had he been nominated in another era, he would have likely received 90+ votes,” Flake wrote.

“When Dr. Ford’s allegations against Judge Kavanaugh surfaced two weeks ago, I insisted that she be allowed to testify before the committee moved to a vote. Yesterday, we heard compelling testimony from Dr. Ford, as well as a persuasive response from Judge Kavanaugh. I wish that I could express the confidence that some of my colleagues have conveyed about what either did or did not happen in the early 1980s, but I left the hearing yesterday with as much doubt as certainty.”

“What I do know is that our system of justice affords a presumption of innocence to the accused, absent corroborating evidence. That is what binds us to the rule of law. While some may argue that a different standard* should apply regarding the Senate’s advice and consent responsibilities, I believe that the constitution’s provisions of fairness and due process apply here as well. I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.”

Someone tell Sen Flake it was a job interview and he can vote any way he wants. ;)

Either way, Flake rides off to retirement a multi-millionaire thanks to his time in DC.

*"Job interview"?

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Leahy busts out the Merrick Garland card!

He should. The guy should've at least gotten a process-based look. Instead he got nothing.

What these jamokes don't get is you play by the rules all the time, majority or minority, because some day you'll be the other.

Graham is up next (unless Grassley of course decides he needs to pontificate for 5 minutes again) that should be intellectually stimulating

I want to hear Graham, Amy, Booker, and Harris. The rest, meh. Graham just for the hilarity. He's pumping a hand cart straight to hell.

Leahy is saying the exact thing I said last night. Guilty people victim blame. Guilty people throw around conspiracies. He may be hard to listen to due to age but he is on point.
