SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

100% they would have. They dont have the votes without it. McConnell doesnt care he would have done it in a heartbeat. I know that goes against your schtick but context matters as you say.

Doesn't matter who would have pulled the trigger first. Harry did and that may go down as one of his worst decisions.

Let's say that's true. Then this all would have been on them. Instead the Democrats opened the door. You gave them a narrative.

This. It was beyond stupid.

Too late Durbin. Too late.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

So....the solution was for Obama to get no judges approved, then the GOP would have just gone along and ditched the judicial filibuster anyway the first chance they got, all so we could have a meaningless talking point to brag about?

Okaaay?

Nothing to be confused about. You think it was the right way to go, so be it. But, don't be blind to the fact that the Democrats are taking it up the *** right now because of it.

Which.....they would have had happen to them anyway...right?

No idea. All data that I can compile confirms two truths.

1. Republicans play the long game better.
2. Republicans play dirty better.

And the Democrats refuse to combat either one in any matter that is effective.

Well what we need is a centrist to win in 2020 so that they can maintain the status quo and do nothing to push back on 30 years of right wing lunacy because (???).

No idea. .

Scooby you'd been drinking Drano again if you truly think there's a possibility that Itch wouldn't have nuked the filibuster the first chance he got especially in the Trump era. As I said last week, I know you're trying to pick up the mantle of nonsensical lefty alternative facts from Kep, but trix already has that covered.

A Centrist in the Presidency or a Liberal in the Presidency is irrelevant. What you need is someone who will sign the legislation. And in Trump the Republicans have everything they need.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is the Republicans won. Again. They've been running over us since 1980 and they're cementing it with a Court that won't turnover until I'm worm food.

Well of course, I guess I'm just cosigning your larger point that they play the long game better and fight dirty. If the Supreme Court was settled for the next (forever) years in the other direction do you not think the Republicans wouldn't just pack the court by adding a bunch of judges to get a majority? The dems on the other hand would rather play fair and subscribe to the norms playing right into the oppositions' hands long term, just look at how Obama handled the Merrick Garland situation.

The point is that Reid's decision to not continue to allow the federal court system to crumble is not what caused McConnell to go nuclear on SCOTUS nominations, it merely gave him some bonus political cover.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

I've popped the TV on three times this morning (working from home).

First I heard people shouting over each other; then Grassley droning on; now Minnesota's Ms. K*.

I'm yet to hear Kavanaugh's voice.

*Not intended as a slight; I just can't spell the Senator's name.

Who cares who it is "on"? It isnt like Americans do anything about it.

Amy is ticked off and rightfully so. (Kamal and Dick Durbin even more so) This guy has no business being in committee yet the committee hasnt had a chance to even look at the background info on him. This is a Kangaroo Court the likes of which even Flaggy couldnt make up.

This is not what the process is supposed to be. And before someone asks, I would say the same if the Dems did this. This is not some Ambassadorship or cabinet post, this is a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. Whats the point of having a hearing if the members dont have the time or information to vet the subject? Its bad enough the people were stupid enough to do that for President and Congress we need to ruin all three branches now? The Founders would be so friggin pleased...

King George in Hamilton was right.

Re: SCOTUS 10: Pack the Court!

This does give cover to Tester-Machin-Heitkamp-Donnelly-McCaskill to vote against Kavanaugh if they so desire.
