Once this ancient organic material [Permafrost in Alaska, Arctic Ocean areas] thaws, microbes convert some of it to carbon dioxide and methane, which can flow into the atmosphere and cause even more warming. Scientists have estimated that the process of permafrost thawing could contribute as much as 1.7 degrees Fahrenheit to global warming over the next several centuries, independent of what society does to reduce emissions from burning fossil fuels and other activities.

Close call coming.

The next attraction coming up in our skies might be an asteroid big enough to be seen in small telescopes, and maybe even in binoculars, as a small, very slow-moving “star.” Asteroid 1981 ET3 – also known as 3122 Florence – is a huge space rock at least 2.7 miles (4.35 km) in diameter. According to Paul Chodas at the Center for Near Earth Object Studies:

Florence is the largest asteroid to pass this close to our planet since the first near-Earth asteroid was discovered over a century ago.

Asteroid 3122 Florence will safely pass by our planet on September 1, 2017 at over 18 times the Earth-moon distance. The asteroid will not be visible to the unaided eye. It will, however, become visible in small amateur telescopes by late August, in the course of what will become the closest encounter to Earth by this asteroid since 1890.

Right, but the point of the article is that now that we have ice breaker tankers, we're going to see more.

More breaking of the ice (how fast does a glass of shaved ice melt vs. a solid block?) and more pollution because of more traffic since it's cheaper. The biggest problem with more pollution is that it will settle on the ice making it darker, which will make it melt faster.

This is the sea equivalent of rolling coal.

That's true. I read the whole thing, but evidently my mind was stuck on what I thought was a clickbait headline. Gave it another read after your post.

I had the same thought early in the article and I agree they should have clarified it. By the end I was mad enough I didn't even think about the headline.

The military angle is laughable at best. If these people can't manage in non-ideal conditions during training, how are they supposed to make due in actual combat? And will the wind farm completely encircle the base? Doubtful.

Then there's his line: "Wind turbines do not provide jobs. "
Isn't wind maintenance once of the fastest growing industries in energy right now?

Yeah, it's just a Bluetooth accessory to turn your smart phone into a speaker phone. For $150, you too can add on a feature to your smart phone that it already possesses.

I didn't understand that either. What does this thing really do? I assumed it was for devices without bluetooth but I (naively) thought all smart phones were BT enabled now. I mean, mine is, and I am a tech dinosaur. So is it for some other peripheral?

No, it's just acts as a highly stylized speakerphone. Your smartphone has the ability to act as a speakerphone already, you just have to hit the right button during a phone call. This ST Communicator acts as a default speakerphone when you simply flip it open like a Swinging Cpt. Kirk.
