Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Can someone shed some light on which NCAA schools have two ice facilities on campus?

Thanks in advance!!

Wisco, U of M. Not sure if there are others.

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

St. Cloud State has two sheets of ice within one facility; the Huskies play on Olympic ice but there is an NHL-sized practice rink. Minnesota State has two ice sheets at All-Season Arena; I don't know if the second one is a different size than the NHL sheet that they use. I think that there is a second surface at the Ralph for North Dakota, but I've never actually seen it, so I could be wrong.

Augsburg - CM - Eau Claire - CUW - SNC - Marian.
Some located just off campus though.

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Boston University has Agganis for men's hockey and Walter Brown for women's hockey.

EDIT: Just to be clear, BU doesn't really have a "campus," it's more of a smattering of academic buildings along a state highway interspersed with homeless people here and there. But both arenas are within that general area.

Good point. Here in Canada know of several universities with modern facilities with two ice pads. In Ottawa, both Carleton U and Ottawa U have a double pad complex.

Are you saying the BU campus has character. :D

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Umass has the Mullens Center and right next door to it a second sheet, generally referred to as the practice rink . .

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Penn State has two NHL sized rinks in the Pegula Ice Arena. The second only has room for 100 spectators so it is a practice rink.

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

RMU has several ice sheets as well.

Ohio state has separate men's and women's facilities.

PSU has a practice sheet.

Re: Schools with two ice pads on campus (or relatively close to campus)

Wisconsin has three. The Kohl Center, LaBahn Arena, and the Camp Randall Sports Center, also known as the Shell. The Shell is owned and run by Rec Sports, and until LaBahn Arena opened, the women's team would practice at the rink there. Since the opening of LaBahn Arena, the Shell ice rink is no longer used by UW Athletics.

Sort of. The fuller story is that the OSU Ice Rink -- which holds about 1,000 fans -- is the home of OSU Women's Hockey, for practices and games alike. OSU Men's Hockey holds most of it's practices at the Ice Rink, while hosting most games at the Schottenstein Center. The Schott is a multi-purpose building, and is also home to Men's and Women's Basketball.

But yes, when the ice is available at the Schott, we have two ice sheets: Men's games at one; Women's games at the other. But note that the Women have played a few special occasion games at the Schott. So it really is a bit more complicated than you make it sound.

There is indeed a second sheet at North Dakota, 200x100, with the "primary" sheet in the arena at 200x85.

Cheers,

I'm not sure we should hold BU accountable for the BC alums that wander down Commonwealth Ave.

We're the ones throwing change into the BU alums' cups.

The successful BU grads pump my gas.
