Re: Saturday Scores, Complaints, Updates, Rowdy Crowd, and MIAC Showdown #2
Final from the Wallace Civic Center
Salem St. 4
Fitchburg St. 2
It is now 12-0 Canada. Well, Slovakia did win a qualifier by 86.
Short recap on this game (since I was there).
Salem seemed to control the play most of the game, as they were able to hold Fitchburg (who entered tonight 4th in the nation in scoring offense) to only a few chances. Maybe the Falcons weren't at the top of their game tonight, as they weren't able to really challenge Sam Avoine in net, but Salem's defense really played tough. Bobby Leiser did all that he could, making some incredible saves (especially in the third). But the bottom line is, Salem played great all around hockey, and earned the win.
Salem improves to 10-8-3 on the season, and will get a non-conference inter-divisional game against the surprisingly good St. Anselm Hawks on Tuesday. Fitchburg falls to 15/16-4-1, and will continue their homestand against Westfield State on Thursday.
Oh, by the way. I made sure that the announcers (<strike>and the official scorer</strike>) knew that Sam Avoine (and not James LaCour) was in net for Salem. Last thing we need is more people calling the wrong name (related note: I met James at the game. He's a really great guy).
Forget what I said about the official scorer,
they screwed it up. And I told them that Avoine was the right guy (they even wrote in Avoine on the official scoresheet. I know, I saw it). How did they pull that off? I sent an e-mail to the FSC SID to correct that. If that doesn't work, feel free to send that angry email Joe.
