Saint Anselm

Re: Saint Anselm

Help me with this. Why would someone want to deliberately inflate the number of SOG in a DIII college hockey game? Probably the best way to talk about this ,is to go to a game .count the shots yourself and then compare the count to the "official" shot count.

I'm guessing it's just due to the fact that they've got a couple of freshmen who've never really followed hockey taking the shot counts.

Either that, or they take the shot counts on the NCAA shot chart (where you mark down every attempted shot, and make a note of shots on goal, shots blocked, shots that missed the net, posts, and goals), and just count up every attempt.

Re: Saint Anselm

To all of you who did not attend the St. A's/Tufts game or listen to a webcast I think you should temper your comments about the SOG totals. Joe McCarthy made a lot of trouble for a lot of people by shooting off his mouth without any facts to support his accusations. The harm was done before he was proven to be just a loudmouth drunk. Are you?

The SID at St. Anselms told me: "the shots on goal totals in that game was was absolutely correct" and the statistics for their home game are kept by a professional staff.

Good enough for me ............... let it go!

Well considering I do it for EVERY USM home games the past 12 years, I would say I do it a lot...

I don't care what anybody says: I will never believe these were the true shots in the game...Explain this one???? Please don't tell me what I should question...It's not like I am crapping on anybody it's the fact that they let work study students from different sports keep the shots on net...They do this at almost every school so its not that big a deal....I just take shots on net with a huge grain of salt...I mean they have 39 total shots in the 2nd period in the game below: seriously???

Someone needs to tell the "professional staff" that shots in warmups, shots that are blocked, and shots that aren't put on net don't count. Those totals are ridiculous and it's not the first time it has happened there. 66-29? Keep dreaming.

Re: Saint Anselm

on a side note, looking at st. anselms website they sure do have a beautiful hockey facility on campus. too bad they, along with presumably the rest of their athletic department, are D2...

I'm not sure, maybe in D2, all unsuccessful pass attempts that don't result in turnovers are considered shots, regardless of where they end up:rolleyes: ;)
