RUSH (the band) thread

Re: RUSH (the band) thread

Yeah it does qualify you but not as a casual fan, more like a jackwagon trying to start a flame war.

If I get a tattoo of Geddy Lee would that bump me up to casual fan or do I need to learn some sort of secret Rush Casual Fan Handshake to become one? I enjoy some parts of the band and a few of their songs. I have spent money on the band buying their cd's and seeing them in concert; you know, generally things a casual fan would do. I also can see things about the band and their fans that annoy me. I am sorry I didn't realize that I was only allowed to make posts about Rush that would make the editors of Pravda proud.

Gene Krupa? He was good but I would take Buddy Rich any day over Gene Krupa!!!! How about Art Blakey or Max Roach? Let's not forget those fine gentlemen as well. As far as Neil, I think he is one of the best rock drummers of all time. He is right up there with John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, Bill Bruford, etc. I can see how people might feel that he is a bit over-hyped BUT I still think he is historically one of the greatest drummers to ever sit behind a set. There is no other drummer in rock who can play compound time signatures as well as Neil Peart!

I am in no way saying Neil isn't great at it, but Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy might take issue with that statement.

I am choosing to ignore the Avenged Sevenfold version of Portnoy, FYI.

the gene krupa comment was directed solely at the poster who wanted to target Mr. Peart.

I agree w/you on Art Blakey, Neil couldn't touch Art when it comes to jazz drumming that's for **** sure. but as a rock drummer I have Neil #1, w/Copeland 2, Bonham 3, then it's a free for all beyond that w/deep purple guy, dave lombardo, and so many others

Absolutely. Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy are both great drummers who play in complex time signatures very well. However, to be fair, there would be no Portnoy or Carey with out Neil Peart. But they are all great!

Re: RUSH (the band) thread

bought the Rush Time Machine Cleveland show today, yes!

also found a gem (er bootleg) of a 1974 cleveland show (wmms broadcast) that includes: Finding My Way, Working Man, The Best I can, and 2 unreleased songs, Garden Road and Fancy Dancer!

bonus tracks from a 1975 show in cleveland: Anthem, Beneath, Between and Behind, Fly By Night
