RPI @ Yale 1/18/20

Re: RPI @ Yale 1/18/20

The interesting thing is that the women are not as badly outmatched as the 65-66 men's team was. That team had the benefit of playing quite a few games vs non-D-I opponents and winning a couple of them. Against legitimate D-I opponents they were totally outclassed, e.g. 16-1 vs. Clarkson and 14-0 vs. Northeastern. DrD probably remembers how many saves Dick Greenlaw made in a 9-0 loss to BU. IIRC, he received one of the 3 Stars.

Ralph, that is a very odd way to try to cheer me up ;). The thing is, once you commit to being a fan of any team you hang on every small straw. For the RPI women, now, the only possible redemption for this season is to win the Union weekend, (next weekend) but that would require an upset. Lord, I can't believe I just said that RPI women are underdogs against Union!

Re: RPI @ Yale 1/18/20

What does a guy have to do to establish himself as the #1 goaltender?

Being #1 does not necessarily mean that he plays every game. I don't find any fault with Coach Smith's recent goalie selection.

Maine won a championship with Mike Dunham and Garth Snow pretty much splitting things 50-50.

Terrible power play. Don't understand how they've had such a bad power play after its start to the season

That was clearly an unusual situation. Give us Kariya, Montgomery, the Ferraro brothers, et al and Smith can do whatever he wants in net.

Don't forget Cal Ingraham who led the team in goals. Short people are always overlooked. :D

Anyone else find it annoying that the announcers keep saying that we are watching the Ivy League on ESPN? I think Perry, Joe, et al should say during all of our games against Ivy League opponents that we are watching the Liberty League on WRPI/RPI TV.

Why can’t it just be the ECAC and leave it be?

That was the point. This is the ECAC, not the Ivy League. While the Ivy League teams like to cite their imaginary titles, the NCAA recognizes the league as the ECAC. The Ivy League does not get a bid to the tournament. So, out of respect for the league they plan in, the Bulldogs should promote this as ECAC hockey, not the Ivy League.
