RPI vs. Union (11/15 & 11/16)

Re: RPI vs. Union (11/15 & 11/16)

Union 1 RPI 1 in Schenectady
Union 3 RPI 3 in Troy

PS. Thanks for wearing out Cornell :)

Watch the league throw down additional discipline for clear dives, making the game two blowouts for #26.

No question this is going to be a series in which neither team wants to give an inch. Just hope for a set of officials that can handle these types of games-hard hitting, fast play, and a bit of animosity. i would hate to be talking about how the officials determined the outcome of either game. Either let them play, or don't let them play-but make it obvious right away and be consistent.

One of the games is Dell's last game as a ref.

As I mentioned when discussing him before, he has nost certainly not been th eworst for most of our games. He has had some rough games-but I think he fits in about the middle of the guys we have had over the years. But back in those days he was the only ref on the ice-now sharing duties could change things a bit.

RPI's basketball team will be playing its home opener Saturday afternoon, but game time will be 3 PM instead of the usual 4 PM for Saturday games.

No doubt this is so the basketball crowd can clear the ECAV/HFH parking lots in time to make room for the hockey crowd. :D

Taking bets now, how many goals will be disallowed for RPI over the weekend that clearly should not be? Betting on 2, one of which would be a game-winner.

Given the ones in question were game tying goals (or potential GTG), I'll take the bet.

Thanks Turk. I have less grasp on how the different officials do games in the past couple years with so many new faces out there. Dell is fairly predicitable whether we like him or not. Many times we have had a lot worse. Baker we have seen enough to know a bit and hopefully can figure out how these games will be called early enough. I suspect the key to both games is the early part of the game-Union has always been a much tougher team playing with an early lead. The past few years they have not taken too many ill advised penalties and their special teams have been impossibly good. If we stay clean early, if we win the battle of special teams, if we play the entire game without some of the lapses that seem to do us in-we can have a successful weekend. We have played them often enough to know their approach and their system-really should not be any surprises. We have more scoring than we have had in the recent past and we are playing fairly good team defense. Thus far, special teams for us has actually been an asset. I fully expect that coach SA will have this team ready to play smartly.

There's no curse, unless you count having to play even one game in that sewer they're going to tonight.

Maybe that's why the game is at 7:30. People show up at 7, and have a prayer to get to the urinal before the second intermission.
