RPI vs St. Lawrence: Saturday, 11/14/09

Re: RPI vs St. Lawrence: Saturday, 11/14/09

Perhaps we are just missing too many offensive weapons-Helfrich, Bergin, Lee-and it is catching up with us tonight

Doc, we have played much better on Friday nights, and seem to run out of gas on Saturday night. (See Brown/Army).
This has got to be corrected.

A stark difference in scoring from last year's match up in Appleton. That's for sure. Weren't we commenting about the need to keep the scoring down this time? Oops

2-1, Slu Let's get them back in Troy!

We could not even generate pressure with the man advantage and pulling the goalie

It's clear our injuries have caught up with us. Appert was double shifting the freshmen all night and they were absolutely GASSED by the 2nd period.

A dose of reality tonight-we are a better team than the last couple years but we still have a ways to go. We matchup well against some teams but SLU is not one of them. They controled play all night and outshot us badly. York played well and kept us in the game or else this one could have been worse. We are now 7-4-1 and I suppose we should be content with that start overall and 3-1 in the ECAC. Again-perhaps it would have made a difference if we had the offensive players who were out hurt but I am not sure they could have made enough of a difference.

SLU wins 2-1. The losses are going to be much harder to accept this year, but we have to realize that we are a young team. We need to be better prepared for Saturday nights. I hope that it is not conditioning.
We don't have another ECAC game for a while, so maybe we can work it out Cornell/Colgate in December.

See how contrasting styles work... Union's lunch pail approach beats a physical SLU last night... we've got some quickness and talent, but strength (and maybe a little clutching) overcame us tonight. We'll get injured folks back... another step along the way for our young team. Remember, having Smith and a returning (but maybe not 100%?) Rabbani helps us play this type of opponent.

The result doesn't bother me nearly as much as the almost complete control of play by SLU. We were outplayed, outshot and out hustled. I suspect that SA will be tough to live with tonight on the bus ride home.
