Dartmouth fan here...

I'll first answer your rhetorical question, Ralph -- there are WAY more RPI fans on here than Harvard fans. And I think there are even fewer Dartmouth fans here, and most of us are quiet on this board. :D

As far as this weekend series, unfortunately I won't be there to see it (I am however making the trek up to North Country the following weekend, which will be my first time seeing them play this year). If the past two games are any indication, looks like Jody O'Neil won his goaltending job back (though not sure after 7 GA at Yale last Sat whether Mello will start against RPI...) We've returned most of the team from last year, but one thing we all know from over the years is that RPI has always given us hell whether in Thompson or on the road. Hoping for a good, clean game.

Tinordi has been a man among boys out there and is the kind of player that makes opponents nervous, forcing them to cough up pucks, change direction or risk being hammered. For the most part he has shown great judgment in when he uses his strength. Love the kid.

Cullen definitely has the talent to unseat Halpern, Rabbani, as well as some others. I would say that I agree with you about Tinordi, but I don't want to admit it DrD. :p

Cullen does have the talent and needs to get in soon. I don't know who would come out since they are all giving 100% each and every shift but somehow Cullen needs to be worked back in. I hope he is ready when he gets the nod!

No one on this board has been more on his side than I have-I love this kid and he will make us forget all about not getting his brother to Troy. He will continue to get better and he will give us one nice sized solid forward out there. Wicked-you have a discerning eye for talent-this kid is a good one.

Agreement here-We need to create offense and Cullen will do that IMO better than a few others. After 7 games i am convinced that the defense is pretty solid-now we need to score some more goals.

Looking forward to the weekend in what looks to be a very tough match up for Harvard. I alwways hate opening up against non-Ivy competition to start the year because of the game discrepancy. RPI & Union have gotten rid of the cobwebs and gotten to look at some different line combos whereas Harvard / Dartmouth don't have the same luxury.

For Harvard, this is the first time in a while where Harvard is not anticipated to do much of anything. I actually like this tag because I think will allow Donato to employ a team-first, lunchpail mentality. Against most teams, Harvard can't win on talent alone this year.

Harvard returns a lot of forwards and their strength will be both experience and depth. No Hobey Baker candidates, but some players who have the ability to emerge as in the upper echelon of the league - guys like Alex Killorn, Alex Fallstrom, Connor Morrison, and Marshall Everson.

On the defensive side of things, it is just the opposite. Harvard will be young and thin. Harvard will likely skate two frosh on D (Fick from Minnesota and Ford from the USHL) in addition to the returning folks - Grimshaw, Huxley, Biega, and Rempel. Both of the frosh can skate and while they will have to adjust to the physicality of college hockey, the transition froma skill/speed perspective will not be so great.\

In goal, I believe Kyle Richter will end up on the All ECAC (1st or 2nd team). He was All ECAC as a sophmore, had to take a year off because of some academic issues, and last year, had an up and down season getting back into things. I think he is poised to really take the reigns this year and wun with it.

As much as it pains me to say, Harvard would have to be happy with 2 points this weekend. 3 or more points would be huge! Here's to some great hockey this weekend.

Also, for those of you RPI / Union fans who are staying the weekend, you should check out the Liberty Hotel in Beacon Hill. It is the old Boston jail that has been converted into a hotel. It's in a great location and is right on the Red Line (3-4 stops from Harvard Square), and right in the heart of Beacon Hill - very quintissential Boston.

IIRC, York has played every minute of every game except for the second half of the exhibition game that didn't count.

If RPI is # 1 in scoring defense, how can York not be # 1 in GAA? :confused:

Without checking stats, other teams may have played two goalies with one being very good and the other not so good.

Brown has started two different goalies. Clemente started against Yale and gave up 7 goals. Their new freshman beat Princeton while only giving up 1 goal. So, his GAA is 1 while Brown's is 4.

And, Kincaid has a better GAA than York because he didn't go in for the second Sacred Heart game until after Milan gave up SHU's 3 goals and he didn't play against UConn.

May have? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are 2 others who have have - even without looking it up.

I'll be in PL this weekend watching the squirts play so I'll miss these two games (sadly). Here is our recipe for success this weekend:

Harvard - Just show up. They will not have a winning team until Donato goes. It's the curse of Huxley you know. I almost picked them last this year. Did I mention that they need another coach yet?

DC - Put Cullen in for Halpern. We don't want Halpern to have flashbacks.

I see a win and a tie.

Bingo...I don't worry about stats until league play begins. :)

I'm hoping Union got a wake-up call from their recent ties - blowing a 3-0 lead and 2-0 lead can't sit well with these guys.

Talent yes, but based on Seth's comments the lunchpail mentality the others have shown has apparently been missing.

Box score for Friday's game shows RPI with 5 penalties for 10 minutes. One of those was a matching minor situation, so they were shorthanded for only eight minutes.

And they were, indeed, tough to beat. :)

Have to give a shout out to kurt Stutt on a comment he made during last nights broadcast. Right before he made the remark about how he has seen Bob Gaudet coach for alot of years and has never seen him all that happy I was saying to my son my god listen to that idiot Gaudet screaming ..the radio mikes are picking up his fit!! I can only imagine what heck his son caught after the game as RPI scored while he was in the box.Yikes
