RPI & Union @ Cornell & Colgate (2/22, 2/23)

Re: RPI & Union @ Cornell & Colgate (2/22, 2/23)

So we know the faceoffs will be awful at Lynah.

Baker calls a strict game, so we do need to not give Cornell any chances to put us in the box. I've never seen Steinel ref a game; Carusone keeps games well under control. Obviously Ciamaga we've had a few times now, and he's very much coming into his own.

I have seen Baker a couple times-nothing good or bad to say (which is probably good). The others just not familiar with. hoefully it will be ice to just play our game and not have to be concerned about the officials. That is how hockey should be played.

Baker's very hit or miss. I seem to remember someone saying that he calls the crowd. Initially there wasn't too good of an impression, but as I watch his games, I notice that it's more that he likes to call a very tight game and stay very in control, especially given a couple times I've heard expletives on a hot mic during RPI/Colgate last year (either him or his partner in crime). Moral of the story is that there are 3 keys to the game for RPI this Friday:
1. Stay out of the box.
2. Stay out of the box.
3. Stay out of the box.

I think number 3 is the most important.;) Add-not allowing anything short handed against. We are a very good team right now-on the verge of becoming even somewhat better. We have to control the pace of this game-if we are the faster team, then by all means keep the pressur eon and try not to let it get bogged down with whistle after whistle. And focus on not letting Miller, Lowry, or Esposito beat us. Two totally different teams this weekend-and two totally different approaches necessary. Although we did win the north country trip-we still have to show we are as good a road team in the ECAC as we are at home. Go Red!!

Totally agree Doc...I think tempo will dictate how this one will turn out. If we continue the outstanding tempo and forecheck that we've had these last few weeks, then we'll continue to force turnovers and keep the offensive pressure in their end.

How's the view from section O at Lynah?

It's to the direct left shoulder of where your goalie defends twice, you can barely even see the other side of the ice (at least if you're at the glass) and you're right across from the robots (the young ones in the student section of A, that is). Better than being around the home fans, though; they're worse than us.

Re: RPI & Union @ Cornell & Colgate (2/22, 2/23)

Section O is pretty awful (especially if you're there as a band), but it gave FlagDUDE and I a great view of Cornell's near-goal last year. It was nice to know with confidence that all of the Lynah Faithful were going to be crushed by the no-goal call.

Re: RPI & Union @ Cornell & Colgate (2/22, 2/23)

Colgate is very tough at home, 10-5, and they have some players returning from injuries. They can score. Cornell always gives Union fits especially at Lynah. Last year Union was a road team. Not so this year. Has Union developed the leadership to step up and step out under pressure? Will the fore checking we saw last weekend show up? Earlier in the year I saw Union play Harvard. The Union team that showed up the the third period of that match needs to return full time. I just don't know. Will find out in an hour.
