RPI & Union @ Brown & Yale (1/29, 1/30)

Re: RPI & Union @ Brown & Yale (1/29, 1/30)

Regardless, for the second game in a row, we lost to a team we should have beaten. This team is capable of better, but has not showed it in its last two games. I think I'm allowed to be disappointed.

If we don't play significantly better tonight - at both ends - we won't win. Period.
I agree with you 100% on all of this Wicked. Never thought we would lose last night until the call on Merth.

Re: RPI & Union @ Brown & Yale (1/29, 1/30)

What was your view of the call?
Hate to say it but I never saw it. I glanced up at the clock and looked back at the play where where had won the face-off and our RD cleared it up the boards. When the Brown D man caught it at the point and the whistle blew my first reaction was that it had to be on Brown.

Given that the Malchuk play was somewhat innocuous (but a must call, sort of like an inadvertent high stick), it seemed hard to believe they would call something that ticky-tack to set up a 5 on 3 for a full 2 minutes. The referees essentially decided the game there - without question.

I think the rule where face-offs are brought into your own end after a penalty is the direct cause of some of these long 5 on 3's. If the face-off was in neutral ice, then you wouldn't have players working like hell to win that first draw. They would just try to push the puck forward and drop back toward thsir own end. But I digress...

The refs can't be completely blamed. We had a chance in the 2nd period and didn't capitalize, had to leave most of the work for the 3rd, and got the short end.

I hope Coach tweaks the lines for this game, maybe even bring in Scott Halpern for this one, and put Brutlag on the checking line. Who knows...

Re: RPI & Union @ Brown & Yale (1/29, 1/30)

RPI and Union should have no trouble getting 2 points each in Providence. Brown has been awful recently. We just ended a 5-game losing streak at Clarkson tonight, but we also almost blew a 3 goal 1st period lead.

I WAS looking forward to next weekend because we haven't been home for so long, but now I'm more worried than excited.

I'm eating my words, and they are delicious. :D

A three point weekend against #18 and its dangerous but inconsistent travel partner is definitely something to build on, especially with Harvard and Dartmouth coming to Meehan next weekend. We seem to have Harvard's number recently, but Dartmouth is always a toughie for us.

Anyway, it's been nice reading and commenting on this thread! I've always thought that RPI fans were pretty classy (exception: Red Cloud) and nice (Red Cloud is also excepted), and Union fans have proven to be similar. Good luck the rest of the way! I'm especially rooting for Union, because its nice to see them succeed after so many years of futility. Also, they have pretty swell uniforms. The designer deserves a shot on Project Runway.

So, really no suprises for this group. Union comes out with 1 point, RPI gets 2, Yale gets 2 and Brown gets 3. A bit of a surprise that Brown didn't get the sweep and that RPI beat Yale so soundly. I guess it would be boring if there weren't a few surprises like this.

Sounds like someone's got a grudge to settle here.

It's OK, kdiff is pretty clearly projecting here since I wouldn't describe him as "nice" or "classy" either. I won't use the word that I would use, since I don't want to stoop to his level.

Oh, well I was kind of just joking, but if you'd rather throw down, I'm game.

If you were "kind of just joking" it probably would have shown in your first post. So not only do you appear to lack class, you're also apparently gutless when you get called on what you write.

Well, I apologize that my jokes aren't apparent in my writing, but I assure you, there was no animosity intended. If I were being serious, I would not be denying it now.
