They would hold the puck and cycle for what seemed forever. often going back and starting over. But their offense started by gaining the puck and they always had 3 very good faceoff men on the ice at most times. Speaking of the late 50's and 60's of course.

It certainly happens, as SLU has done it to us a number of times. And even if you don't score with it, it does have the effect of tiring the opposition, which can lead to the "mistakes" that create the goals I described.

Felt for many years that SLU did more with less than most other teams. Attributed it to just extremely good coaching both in game preparation and in game adjustments by a master coach

Very true; Joe Marsh is one of those coaches you really have to respect. I'd almost say the same about Gaudet at Dartmouth, as they always seem to come out very competitively.
