RPI @ UConn, Tuesday, 10/18/14

Re: RPI @ UConn, Tuesday, 10/18/14

It ends as a tie-perhaps the best we could have expected with our offense limited by injuries and the shuffling of the lines. The good-defensively we did a good job even with two of our best defensemen injured. Diebold showed he is indeed an extremely capable goalie. We tied a team that gave QU and BC trouble. The bad-I fully expected more offense out of the other 3 lines. Just not enough shots generated or chances generated.

Back-to-back Tuesday NC games provides some good recuperation time for our injured players.

Just got back from the game. Some random comments. First do not believe the shot counts; they were off and biased all night. There were several cases where the UConn goalie made a clear save, and nothing was registered. It got so we were all laughing at it. I was sitting amongst some UConn fans, and they were surprised at the lop-sided counts. The place was like a library, not much fan noise at all. A Tuesday game off campus can do that. On the plus side, we got ourselves some Guinness and Harp at not-too-outreageous prices. I thought that we did alright considering the injuries, and the line juggling. Diebold played very well, although he didn't have to make too many five-star saves. Though, when called on, he did. Deserved first star. First period was trying, but the second, third, and OT were entertaining. From my seat, I thought the RPI had the better of the opportunities, there were several chances that were just a hair off. It also seemed that they were trying some different things on the blue line. The defensemen were much more active in the offensive zone than I can remember. I'm sure that both teams thought that they could have won. All in all a fun night out.

Similar thoughts here. The reported shots on goal were indeed way off. I should mention how great it was to have such a healthy turnout of alums for a Tuesday non-conference game. Although we weren't playing at our best, neither was Uconn, and the score was exactly what both teams deserved.
