[Wicked Slappaahs]

UMass has probably seen its best days. Carvel walked into a situation where the previous staff had already gotten a commitment from Cale Makar (no, Ben did not recruit Makar although you have to wonder how much work was done to keep him on board) and other top players. With most of those players and Ben gone the bloom is off the rose.

It's a bit premature to bury UMass...given the talent that departed it was no surprise they came back to earth this season. I believe better than half their team this season were underclassmen ......so next year will tell us more and if they can bounce back. Losing Barr was certainly a blow, but Carvel can recruit and he sure as heck didn't forget how to coach.
