I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they often tweet them with committals.

A public article on NZ when Tinling left UVM. https://www.neutralzone.net/mens/202...ck-to-juniors/
Since he was 4.5 *'s before UVM and 4.0 now, he didn't perform as well as hoped.

Dovar Tinling (4.5-stars) left Vermont after one-and-a-half seasons with the Catamounts. Tinling, who is from Quebec, will play the rest of this season with the Des Moines Buccaneers. In two games over the weekend, Tinling began his USHL run with two goals and an assist.

Tinling appeared in 26 games for UVM since the start of the 2020-21 season and finished with two goals and one assist.

Tinling was the youngest player in college hockey last season. He didn’t turn 18 years old until this past March and will turn 19 years old in a few weeks (March 3).

Neutral Zone NHL scout Ian Moran was high on Tinling this past summer, ranking him as the No. 133 overall prospect in our NHL Draft Final Rankings.

“Dovar has been an excellent part of this team for 26 games, he is a student in good academic standing and he has a bright future ahead of him,” UVM coach Todd Woodcroft said in a statement. “This being an NHL draft year, Dovar will have an opportunity to showcase his game alongside players of his own age group. We sincerely wish Dovar all the best and thank him for all his contributions, both on and off the ice.”

Hopefully the Tinling commit is a sign that we really are being perceived as having success with highly regarded players that didn't reach expected performance levels at their first school (Gornall, Zieky, Agnew, Walsh, Lee, etc.). It also probably means we'll have an interesting senior night. We only have two guaranteed slots (Hallbauer and Hermann) but there are 4 others that would be finishing up if not for the Covid exemption (Mahshie, Walsh, Budy and Klee). Four of those are forwards while Ralph is showing 8 coming in this season. It wouldn't surprise me if Tapper (young) and Bourgault (injured but if he goes back it would be as an overage player) are delayed but we still look over roster/scholarship limits if there aren't surprises. Meanwhile, we have one and perhaps two defense slots and no obvious candidates among our commits.

As for Tinling's brother, I remember reading somewhere that the author felt Azzaro was recruited in a package to get Dovar.

Personally I'd prefer to see us bring back Mahshie, Walsh and Budy over bringing in the 2 overagers and Tinling. I wonder if those 3 just don't want to come back. It'd be surprising if we didn't want them back.

As for defense, I'd also like to see Klee back, he's been solid all year. The other 2 spots if he comes back I assume we'll hit the portal or late decommits (like Ardanaz last year) or overagers

I agree on the forwards, particularly Mahshie, but it's hard to imagine those guys are coming back if we are adding overagers at this late date. I'm a bit more optimistic about Klee because, notwithstanding the guy that Ralph reported we lost to UND a few weeks ago, we've known all along that there are only 6 underclassmen on the backline yet there's been relatively little noise about defensive recruits. If we have 7 experienced guys returning I'd be more willing to fill in the depth slots with an early entry, transfer, etc. We might even get lucky with a rotation guy, but I wouldn't want to wait until April to find that out.

The years in my chart are garbage. However since I am not sure, I am not changing anything until I am fairly confident. Besides for Hotson and the overagers, I am not sure about anyone coming. In Hotson's case that is unless he decommits. I originally expected Bourgault and Babich to also be coming, but now I am not sure.

Edit: Didn't Leibold leave after the first semester? That adds another hole.
