The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.
I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they often tweet them with committals.

STRENGTHS according to Neutral Zone (NZ doesn't include them for women and goalies):
Aw=Awareness/IQ, Ch= Character/Leadership, GS=Goal Scoring Ability, Sk=Skating, Sp=Speed, SH=Stick Handling Skill,
St-Strength, To=Toughness, Vi=Vision/Passing

A lot to catch up on after ignoring RPI hockey for more than a year. Ralph, can I put you on the spot and ask you to identify the top three prospects from the current list of recruits? I know that you follow this more closely than anyone else.

Until he passed away, Turk and I used to exchange e-mails often on this topic. It seems harder now because Appert used to get a greater mix of recruits -- high and low talent level, while Smith seems to get all or most recruits at a pretty similar level. Perhaps Appert gave several full scholarships and other small ones or walk-ons while Smith spreads the 18 scholarships out.

It is also hard to compare recruits playing in different leagues, at different positions, and at different stages of development. So, I will get out of this by using Neutral Zone's rankings, not that they are infallible. That would mean Brown is #1, and Al-Azem, Ciccarello, Hotson, McDonald, and Smolinski are #2 to #6 in some order.

Great answer...that was all that I was looking for. Living in Alberta I may get a chance to watch Wallace once or twice this year. Brooks has had a powerhouse franchise in recent years but that may have led to a lot of their players getting recruited on the basis of the team's success rather than the individual, but I will reserve judgement on that.

I may not be Ralph, but I would rank them as Brown, McDonald, Hotson. However, I like almost all of our recruits

Tyler Hotson may have just played last weekend for Muskegon as an affiliate. He may now be back at SAC. We'll see if he plays for SAC on Thursday.

It will be fascinating to see how many recruits we bring in for next season. By my calculation we only have 3 guys that will exhaust their eligibility (Marshall, Baxter and Sellar). In addition, we have 7 guys that will finish their 4th year of college but will retain eligibility. That includes Addamo, who is listed as a graduate student after playing 3 years at RMU, of which the last doesn't count against his 4 seasons of play. I presume we are still looking for a goalie but we have a lot of candidates for the 2-9 skating slots. Fortunately only Ciccarello and Fawkes (probably not coming here but still on our list for now) are exhausting their junior eligibility. However, I expect that many of our best recruits weren't planning on being 21 year old freshmen so there may be limited flexibility. Then again, there have to be similar issues on many other rosters so alternatives may be limited too. Players and coaches may have to make some tough decisions over the next few years until the Covid backlog has worked its way out of the system.
