Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18 (Part II)

It's about the mix -- size, speed and skill. I have no doubt the coaches realize this - this year's roster has a good deal more size then recent years. I'm far less concerned about our size and far more concerned about getting some kids who can finish ...which has been our achilles for far too long

No doubt-but all things being equal (talent, speed, etc.) i always would want the boy who stands 6'2" and weighs 210 over the smaller player. As far as having the finishing touch, I just can never tell in advance who will have that after they arrive in Troy.

Another year, another round of hopeful prayers that at least a couple of the recruits can bury a puck. The sad truth is that we don’t have a clue and junior stats aren’t always helpful. Most of us remember the breathless anticipation about Laliberte, but this week’s sad events sent me looking at Nolan Graham’s stats. In his last season in the BCHL he scored 101 points. He was a solid player for us (I still remember his late game tying goal versus Quinnipiac at the old Northford Ice Pavilion) but nothing about his college career suggested he was a big scorer coming in.

The BCHL was even more of a scorers' league back then than now. Going by memory his teammate Travis Banga was a bigger scorer and ended his college career in D-III.

A quick Google search, Banga scored 129 Pts. in 1 of his seasons playing at Chilliwack with Graham & spent 2yrs @ UNH where he played very little. He finished up @ New England College & is currently the AC with New England College where former RPI recruit, Carlos Fornaris now plays.

Banga actually scored 108 pts playing with Graham. The 129 was the next year.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18 (Part II)

Looking over the recruit list, this is the first time I recall have not seen almost any of them play at all. Jen and I saw a lot of Jon Bendorf, but that was many years ago already. he was impressive then but his skating needed a lot of work. The only other recruit we can remember seeing is one of the Cameron boys and neither of us remembers which one. But that too was many moons ago. This group will be a total surprise to us and of course, hoping for some pleasant surprises. This is the largest list I have seen for RPI and wonder just how many will actually show up in Troy.

Head over to see the NJ Titans & Matt Cameron Doc. Last game attendance was 25 people
