Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

He is indeed on their Roster. That could be interesting. Oakland’s U16 HC is also the head US Scout for the Ottawa 67’s who drafted Swanker in the 3rd rd. http://oaklandjuniorgrizzlies.point...ams/oakland-junior-grizzlies-aaa/u16aaa-staff

That isn't good.

I'm taking this, and the fact that he's wanted by an OHL team (was a 3rd round pick) as a positive. I'm considering this Dave Smith's first non-emergency recruit. He is going hard after what seem to be talented players. I believe we were recruiting Brady Meyer, who recently committed to UMD, and offered Ryder Donovan, who committed to North Dakota. This the tactic he should be doing, as he pretty much has all the recruits he technically needs for next season (though I figure we'll see more as he lets some kids go after next year).

The main point is he can afford to take some swings, and I certainly approve of the risk of doing so, so far in advance of his arrival on campus.

For what it is worth, his own twitter account https://twitter.com/Aswank21 lists the OJG (Oakland), RPI, and Waterloo on the upper left. The only mention of Ottawa is in an earlier tweet.

I agree that he can afford to take swings. Hopefully he will keep the pressure on Swankler over the next few years extolling the virtues of college and RPI in particular.

Yes on Donovan and we had lots of competition http://www.grandforksherald.com/spo...uluth-east-standout-ryder-donovan-commits-und
Donovan made it official Wednesday by giving his verbal commitment to head coach Brad Berry, choosing UND over offers from his hometown team, Minnesota Duluth, as well as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Omaha, RPI, Cornell, Western Michigan and Michigan Tech.

Thanks Scott. Swankler’s elite prospects page..... http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=298560

He led the U16 team in scoring as a 15-year old last year. http://www.eliteprospects.com/team.php?team=16112&year0=2017&status=stats

BTW, I just realized that the Oakland team where he will be playing in the fall is in Michigan, not California. :o (Of course I also thought that the Austin Bruins were in Texas, not Minnesota, originally. :D)

20-21 according to this which makes sense (Ralph also has that). <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="de" dir="ltr">Austen Swankler (Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 16U) has committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for 2020-2021. <a href="https://twitter.com/RPI_Hockey">@RPI_Hockey</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/Aswank21">@Aswank21</a></p>— Hockey Commitments (@HockeyCommits) <a href="https://twitter.com/HockeyCommits/status/892437249232687104">August 1, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

One of the sites which I linked earlier had that date. We all know that date is not etched in stone. :)
