Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16 Part II

JB scored the first and last goals of the game. Briefly, if you are expecting him to be a forward that flies up and down the ice, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for someone to set up in a position to score, somewhere near the net, this is your boy. He is a big kid, but he seems to play even bigger when kids his size try to move him. Seems very strong on his skates. If I had to pick on one thing, perhaps could use some work on his skating and quickness but he is like trying to move Gibralter. Then again, he is not facing NCAA sized players yet.

I suspect that SA wants a mix of skills. Zalewski had some speed to go with his size, but such players are hard to get for non-elite teams. It does sound to me that for his development he should move on next season. Academically it may not be the correct thing.

i have only seen JB 3 times but i can say he has a lot to offer in some respects. I do not and cannot claim to be able judge young talent or predict how they will develop. I can just describe what i see. I saw it with DM for a couple years with his speed and vision o0n the ice and that has translated very well to the higher levels. RPI is a better team with him and his linemates get more chances because of him. JB is just very different. I cannot explain it well but he seems to stand out due to his size, yet he is no bigger than lots of other kids out there on other teams. The only thing i can really say is he plays very big. He seems to get to a spot and they do not seem to be able to move him out of it. he is by no means slow, but he is not the quickest player out there. Almost like you do not notice him, do not see him out there, then all of a sudden you look and he has score 2 goals against you or passed to an open kid who banged one into an almost open net. i do not think we will see much more of him at this level as i suspect he will move to better competition soon. i think you made a very good comparison in style to Zalewski with this one which would not be bad (as long as he stays for 4 years).

I will post the other summaries in the AM.

Perry is the backup for Wenatchee. Nothing yet for Fairbanks (Burgess).

Hard to estimate his height compared to the kid. :)
