RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15

Although strong players can certainly come from many leagues, how concerned should we be that two of our longest standing recruits failed to make an opening day USHL roster (and another left for the BCHL) the season before they are supposedly going to arrive in Troy?
IMO, I’m not overally concerned. Certainly right now it appears both players have not progressed. Tironese on the other hand will be a solid player on the D1 level, I have no doubts about that.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15

Seems to me there might be more to this trade than just Lincoln receiving a Futures pick. Without getting into too much, Jon Hull GM of Lincoln, had high praise for Cho’s game. Saw him as a dominate D-man in the U. He was also surprised Lincoln’s former GM took Praps when most felt he wasn’t going to play in the U. Is Cho now seriously considering the OHL (Saulte Ste. Marie) or will we see him in Troy earlier then anticipated?

Maybe after Reno and Prapavessis, Lincoln was sick of RPI dmen not showing up. ;-)

As turk said, I am not concerned about Tironese. As far as Fornaris and Manley, a question is how much scholarship money will be tied up with them. If they are recruited walkons, it is not nearly as much of a concern as if they are on full scholarships.

Anything is possible, but IMO the fact that he is still at St. Andrews makes me think that the OHL is less likely. Coming to RPI early is possible especially given the performance of Manley and Moore, but probably not that either.

The trade for Cho is for "Future Considerations" per my source.

That sounds like a positive development. I've heard that those deals are often of the "I don't think I can sign him so I'll let you take a shot and we'll get something in return if you succeed" variety. Hopefully his new club will come to the same conclusion.

That certainly could be correct. It also could be that Appert twisted arms to get him to the same place as Cho.

I wouldnt be surprised with this. I believe Appert and Carlson have a good relationship. I have seen Appert on more than one occasion in Cedar Rapids talking to him.

I hope that you are correct and it means that both will spend a year in the USHL. Although, from an academic standpoint, I love true freshmen, a year in the USHL can benefit anyone, assuming that they have the ability to compete there.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15

The United States League may have lost its playoff champs in the Indiana Ice, but the junior circuit gained two expansion teams in Bloomington and Madison. The USHL has become a great league for players on the cusp of NCAA careers and this year will be no exception. I surveyed a crew of insiders to get power rankings and added a player to watch for each franchise.

6. Tri-City Storm – Los Angeles Kings pick Alec Dillon is a towering 6-foot-6 goaltender with great athleticism, committed to R.P.I........http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/ushl-preview-who-will-rule-in-2014-15/

Good to see him mentioned over Weyrick. He's the only ECAC recruit listed.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15

On Friday, the Toronto Patriots defeated the North York Rangers 4-3. Jacob Hayhurst had an assist. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=2473234

Hayhurst's line is now 7-5-5-10-2.

This starts an almost continuous stream of RPI recruit games until Victoria's game ends after midnight in the east, not to mention the RPI women hitting the ice vs. Ottawa which will be on RPI-TV. (There will be a short intermission now until Trenton's game starts at 4:30. :) )
