On Wednesday, the Toronto Patriots defeated the Kingston Voyageurs 6-1. They lead their best-of-seven playoff series 2-1. Jacob Hayhurst scored two goals (2 PPGs) and had an assist. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=2654205

Hayhurst's playoff line is now 19-9-14-23-8.
His total is 68-32-46-78-24.

I will modify this post in the morning if JH got a star which assuredly he got if they were awarded.

He did get POTG which may have been all that was awarded.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

Dang RB....I had that twitter post all set to go :)

A bit surprising since the game was pretty much over when he scored his two goals. BTW, I will have to modify my post if JH was involved in the end-of-game scrum. The Patriots are terrible about entering data in the boxscore in real time as I am sure that you know. I will also post the video tomorrow.

No end-of-game penalties shown in the official boxscore nor were there any Stars given except the Team “Allstar”..... https://twitter.com/patriotsjra/status/588523769955659776

Ice Dogs’ Clary headed to New York

By Tim O’Donnell TODONNELL@NEWSMINER.COM

FAIRBANKS — On Thursday, Lonnie Clary received a phone call from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hockey team informing him that if he wanted to, he could join the Engineers next season.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward decided he wanted to play for RPI in Troy, New York, and announced his commitment on Monday.

“I called my dad to double check and he immediately told me to get off the phone and call them back to seal the deal,” Clary said by cellphone on Monday.

The native of Riverside, California, is the second Ice Dog in a week to commit to RPI, out of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and fourth in the last two seasons. Jesper Ohrvall committed to the Engineers last week while Todd Burgess committed last season. Former Ice Dog skater Viktor Liljegren recently finished his freshman season with the Engineers.

“I talked to (Ice Dogs general manager Rob Proffitt) a little bit and he said he couldn’t have thought of a better fit for me than to go to RPI,” Clary said. “We kind of made the decision in about 15 minutes that I was ready to make that move and head off to New York.”

Clary, Liljegren and Burgess all helped the Ice Dogs with the North American Hockey League Robertson Cup title last season.

“I got a call from (Liljegren) when he heard I committed saying how stoked he was,” Clary said. “He told me how he was walking around campus with a big smile on his face knowing I was coming. That was pretty surreal to hear.

“And he was saying how much of fit it will be for me to be in that locker room,” Clary added. “I’m anxious to get get going with the boys — Todd Burgess, Jesper and Liljegren — see what we can do and change the history over at RPI.”

Liljegren scored seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 40 games as a freshman for the Engineers.

“Once a dog, always a dog,” Clary said. “These guys have been nothing but brothers to me.”

In 54 regular season games this season, Clary, who is listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, has scored eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points this season. In three seasons with the reigning North American Hockey League Robertson Cup champions, Clary has scored 27 goals and 48 assists for 75 points.

Clary also has one assist through the Ice Dogs’ first two games in the Midwest Division semifinal against the Minnesota Magicians. The Ice Dogs lead the series 2-0.

But Fairbanks head coach Trevor Stewart doesn’t rely on Clary for the points. Instead, Stewart looks to Clary to be one of the main energy players on the roster.

“It’s paramount in a team’s success to have those high end character guys that understand maybe, that it’s not always about production in terms of points but its about doing the little things and competing and being a good teammate every single day,” Stewart said. “It’s pretty hard to find these days.”

Stewart expects Clary to play a similar role with the Engineers, who went 12-26-3 overall last season and 8-12-2 in the ECAC.

“He’s going to bring energy to the lineup on game days,” Stewart said. “Not only game days but bring that energy level up in practice as well and just make everyone around him better.”

Clary said the Engineers are going to give him a chance to play as a freshman.

“I’m prepared to go in and earn my ice time and hopefully become a everyday guy by the end of the year,” Clary said.

Clary is undecided on what he wants to major in while at RPI but has given some thought to engineering.

“There’s a part of me that wants to be around the team as much as i can, making sure everyone’s got their head on right,” Clary said. “I’m thinking about going in and starting out in business. Just poke my head around and see how that’s going. Maybe later I’ll probably switch over to engineering down the road.”

Clary’s commitment gives the Ice Dogs nine college recruits on the roster.

Along with Ohrvall and Burgess, forwards Hans Gorowsky and Adam Wilcox and defenseman John Teets are committed to Alabama Huntsville; forward Ethan Somoza is a Bemidji State recruit; forward Chandler Madry (Minnesota State); forward Jacob Hetz (Ferris State); and goalie Patrick Munson (Vermont).

Fairbanks forward commits to RPI
Wed, 04/15/2015 - 17:40 -- jcook

FAIRBANKS-Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward Lonnie Clary committed to RPI on Monday.

RPI is a division one hockey program in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The Engineers finished 9th in conference play last year.

Clary is a three year player for the Ice Dogs. He's a fan favorite who does a little bit of everything to make the team go and excite the home fans. The Riverside, California native has 75 points in 160 career games for Fairbanks.

RPI may stand for Right Place for Ice Dogs because with Clary choosing Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he joins teammates Jesper Ohrvall, Viktor Liljegren and Todd Burgess.

Clary explains why he chose RPI.

"Viktor Liljegren, me and him roomed together all the time last year and I knew he was doing great things over there at that program. Jesper (Ohrvall) and Todd (Burgess), Todd's been committed since last year, and me and him, I grabbed him as a rookie, we've been best of friends. I was like, 'hey, why don't we extend this journey a little longer? Let's have some more fun'. So, they came in the picture and I never thought it would be a better fit for me and my academics, maybe I'll be an engineering major here in the near future," Clary said.

"As a little kid, you always wanted to play college hockey and reach that level. And here you are working as hard as you can and it pans out, it's just very relieving, it's very surreal, I guess you could say."

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

It's nice to have multiple players from the same team, but it can also be a curse if you don't pay close attention to their juniors time. One thing I noticed with DeVito and Wood when I watched them at Lincoln was that they didn't seem to be on the same line (Bourbonnais was playing for the other team at the time), and yet, Appert seemed adamant about putting them all on the same line last year, at least when they were dressed simultaneously. Yes, I understand the sample space is small, so you have to account for rotation, but watching them live gives you so much more than a box score.

FWIW, the only group of people I would put on the same line without dissent are brothers, because the chemistry they can develop over playing with each other for at least 15 years is invaluable.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

The Toronto Patriots lost to the Kingston Voyageurs on Thursday 2-1 in overtime. Their BO7 series is tied 2-2. The box score has not been entered but should eventually be at http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=2654206. No mention of Jacob Hayhurst in the tweets at https://twitter.com/patriotsjra and https://twitter.com/kingstonvees, but TP's goal was scored by a usual linemate. I first saw the final score on this thread http://www.network54.com/Forum/2435...Hayhurst's+gets+pair+in+Patriots+to+a+6-1+win. (see April 16 2015, 9:51 PM.)

I will eventually post the summary.

Edit: That post was not true. The Pats won in OT and lead the series 3-1.
