Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

Jacob looked good. Really played his best game in the All Star game.

Personally I think he is a lock for the roster but then again I dont make the team!

Well if you don't make the team, that leaves another spot open. :p

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

Could be the possible future goalie in one of these groups (not from the U20 though) but not for the upcoming season..... http://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/News/2015-poe-34-to-attend-goalie-camp

None of the U18 are eligible either as like the U20, they all play major junior. Lastly, the U17s are unlikely to have graduated from HS, so I doubt that any would be at RPI in the fall.

Conceivably one of the U18 could arrive in a later year, but IMO that isn't our current major concern,

There is 1 eligible U18 (I thought there were 2). I wasn’t suggesting a Fall arrival. IMO, they need someone with experience for this year & who can handle the crease next year while the future #1 sits & learns or does take over the #1 spot with the veteran backing him up. I see that former UNH goalie Casey DeSmith is no longer going to UMich but as he only has 1 year of eligibility left that doesn’t help with next year.....unless SA finds 2 great Fr. goalies like his bud Enrico Blasi had @ Miami a couple of years ago.

My error.

Personally, I think that Weyrick would be the best choice for this fall unless he has some baggage we don't know about. He appeared to perform about as that other guy at Tri-City.

There is 1 eligible U18 (I thought there were 2).

If you're referring to the one kid out of the NAHL, he played in the WHL beforehand, so he's out too.

As I mentioned in my WaP rundown, Weyrick would probably be a "high-risk, high-reward" type of recruit. There's clearly something in him that had him as one of the best draftable goalies in North America during the midterms before the 2014 draft. He does seem to have been lacking it ever since then. Given the circumstances surrounding the need (and the relative unlikelihood of landing Huska or Jurusik for next season), he definitely deserves a good long look to see if it's something that could re-emerge in his game. I'd put him and Hackett as an interchangable likely best-available option. In fact, I had Weyrick higher than Hackett on my list originally (which explains the reference to Weyrick in Hackett's writeup that I forgot to change).

DeSmith would probably qualify "high-risk, high-reward" too, but as you mentioned, bringing him in would require a pair of freshmen for 2016 and that's probably not a great idea.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

NAHL Draft is complete. No known recruits selected. FWIW, Albany Academy’s Jeff Fasegha was the #2 player selected. Listed as a F but played D for AA. I really don’t see how he was that high to be quite honest.... http://nahldraft.com

I was following that draft for about 150 picks. I thought about posting that Fairbanks drafted another Swede, Johan Larsson, at #88, so we might end up with him, but I decided not to. I guess that I just posted it anyway. :)

I noticed the AA player of course. Maybe he was drafted that high because he actually has interest in the NAHL.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

Just as a followup concerning Blake Weyrick.... he’s currently in the Fargo Force Tryout camp.

I do repeat that I meant Rutledge, not Weyrick. You are probably correct about your assessment of Weyrick. I get these former USNTDP goalies who "what's his name" beat out mixed up. ;) Rutledge appears to be the better. although as WaP pointed out, he doesn't have the size that SA looks for. OTOH Rutledge with two years of eligibility left might make sense as an interim with SA concentrating on an arrival for 2016.

I understood. This Post had nothing to do with that. Slow summer is all.

BTW nothing yet about whether Burgess will be at Sioux City's camp.

Also Ohrvall hasn't shown up in the Directory yet. Probably having trouble translating his HS records from Swedish. ;)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2014-15 Part II

I saw this elsewhere, but since WaP posted it, I'll post it here:
