Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Weekly posts. In the future, I am going to switch over to only posting the 2015 and 2016 recruits info but try to keep it on the first page.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

From Over The Boards "Scouts on Top NHL Draft Prospects for 2014, 2015, 2016"

http://overtheboards.net/scout-quot...ampaign=Feed:+OverTheBoards+(Over+The+Boards)

96 D Mike Prapavessis - Toronto Lakeshore Patriots - RPI

•“He’s good too, offensively he’s like Walman but worse hands. He’s more of a presence, heavier, tough to play against. Probably a 3-4 D in college. A ‘thorough player’, lower ceiling than a Walman because he doesn’t have that NHL quality skill. Good footwork.”

95 F Alex Rodriguez – Shattuck-St. Mary’s – RPI

•“Gets after it. He’s always going and digging out pucks. That always has value. Sometimes his anticipation can be off the charts. Other times he’s going so hard it’s like he’ll crash through the boards and (the anticipation) clearly isn’t quite there.”

•“Meat and potatoes guy, strong on his skates, limited hockey sense. he’s going to be another guy that’s going to be a “grinder” so to speak, he’s going to have to do the dirty work, which he’s fine with. He’s going to be a compliment guy. He’s good enough to put up points — for him to be effective and his line mates, he needs to do the dirty work. He’s not afraid of it, he’ll get those secondary assists and rebounds. He can shoot it. When the pace picks up, I’m concerned about how he thinks it.”

Interesting that Rodriguez was listed but not Dillon.

Note that the scouts are USHL scouts, not NHL scouts, which puts somewhat of a different slant on things.

Edit: Upon reflection, USHL scouts probably mainly saw MP more than a year ago, and he seemed to be improving throughout the past season. Also, if he doesn't have NHL-quality skill that isn't bad from RPI's point of view. :)

I do like the reporting from this source (OTB) but when I read the report on the Smith Bros. (Yale) the writer says he’ll be interested to see how they perform on Yale’s big ice surface (?)....what???? Ingalls is 200x85. Quote; I’m kind of interested to see how they do at Yale with the big ice surface

They used more than one source, and some like Rodriquez were evaluated more than once. It would be interesting to see which ones were from the same scout. Clearly one scout evaluated both Prapavessis and Walman.

Everyone loves the 1st round, for good reason, but keep an eye on the following 'value' picks that will hear their names called Saturday...

Michael Prapavessis - Significant growth over the past 24 months. Good feet, smart, controlled and cerebral. Tools are impressive.

I think that he and Dillon will both be drafted.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Michael Prapavessis was picked by Dallas #105 in the 4th round.

What's nice about Dillon being drafted by the Kings is that they shouldn't be in need of his services for quite some time...

....it also looks like LA will decided where he next plays... On being committed to RPI:
He’s committed to a college, but Edmonton in the Western League had traded for his rights at the trade deadline this year. From what we understand what he’s stated is that he will go where we want him to go, so we’ll have to decide. That’ll be up to the development guys to decide where the best [place is] for him to go.... http://lakingsinsider.com/2014/06/28/introducing-alec-dillon/
