Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

I still think that Rodriguez is coming in the fall even though turk posted a source stating that he is going to Surrey next season.

The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

I guess he isn't for next fall then.

Stat page at SSM http://ssmhockey.org/boys-prep-stats/.

He might be for next fall, Surrey was the plan prior to the commit (which I liked since he can work on producing even more) but I wouldn't be surprised if RPI was willing to let him come in this fall. I've seen him probably over 20 times the past two seasons and he's always a pleasure to watch, works his tail off and makes a lot of plays. Doesn't take a shift off. If I remember right he's from Florida but some of his family moved up to MN with him and he's been up in Faribault for, I think, 5 years.

Thanks. It was my thought also that Surrey was Rodriquez's plan B and that RPI had offered him a spot for next season if Haggerty turned pro which would open a scholarship up. When Haggerty turned pro he immediately accepted. As opposed to when Pirri and D'Amigo left, SA had a plan for Haggerty leaving. I don't see Rodriguez replacing Haggerty's production of this year ever, but he could best this year's entering class's 11 points by himself, as could each of Melanson and Tironese.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

As Schott mentioned today on his radio segment, he (Schott) read what we had written, and both you and I saw that he had committed to Surrey. I could change the year in post 867, but I already have a caveat that the years aren't necessarily accurate. I have been using the years that the recruits give if they give them, and if they don't, what Heisenberg uses. I could go by my own feelings, but I don't feel that I should.

....as has been the last 2-3 years, we'll have a better understanding come August :)

Thanks for your input. How is he defensively?

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

Chris Heisenberg and College Hockey, Inc. have both listed Rodriguez as a 2015 recruit.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

Thanks for your input. How is he defensively?

He's a complete player, just a blue collar kid who can score. I don't like player comparisons but reminds me of Ryan Callahan at times cause he wears teams down with his body, positioning and ability to get the puck in the net as well. He's got a frame to grow on further and can make solid plays. won't wow you every shift, but he's always bringing it. I think we were pretty high on him to have him at #8 or whatever his ranking was by now but the thing with him is that the body of work was excellent through and through and he can produce as well. He's also a very late 1995. Here are some reports we have from seeing him this season - they weren't all written by me. I don't know that he gets drafted this year but I see him as a candidate who might leave RPI as a junior/senior as a well regarded UFA if all goes well.

"The late 95 forward plays the game hard and 'the right way'. High focus level and work ethic. Intuitive skater works his tail off and contributes offensively with nice touches and distributions. Fluid part of the offense who just keeps coming at defenders and forcing bad plays from them. Protects the puck well, above average top speed which he hits quickly and constantly wins battles. His game should translate very well to college hockey. Very developed.

SSM Prep vs. Team Northeast, 10/9/13: Rodriguez was a man on a mission tonight. Created chances every shift and beat most of Team Northeast to pucks - a true difference-maker. Surprised us with some playmaking skill that showed some serious vision - intuited where everyone was moving, and when, so that he could thread passes through to a teammate. Tough to play against.

January 2014, vs. Benilde-St. Margaret's: Fundamentally and positionally he's almost perfect. On the forecheck, he plays like it's Game 7 and is a turnover creating machine. Very disruptive all over the sheet with a high engagement level. His pace and size combination set him apart, but his instinctive play makes him a high-end prospect."

That sounds like an attitude that often seems missing at RPI. Thanks for the post.

I take it that you write for Over the Boards.

A report on OTB (earlier than the one turk posted) about A-Rod http://us7.campaign-archive2.com/?u=8594592e27cf87dd1751628bd&id=444ba59d9d.

The big riser here was SSM Prep forward Alex Rodriguez, who immediately made us regret slotting him at #57 on our October listing once we saw him again. Rodriguez has been terrific, turning heads every time we've caught him play since. That opinion seems to be shared by a number of scouts we've spoken with around the Elite League.
