I actually attended this game tonight. In the FWIW it's worth department (a lot of people think +/- is a useless stat), Melanson is -8 on the season, the worst number on the Lancers current active roster.

I'll say this for the guy, in a league known for some fisticuffs (they play "old time hockey" in the USHL), as much as he has played, he takes an extraordinarily small number of penalties. One in 25 games. Not a very big guy, either. Maybe that's why.

We have been saying for almost two years now that Melanson has to put on some weight. That and the lack of good competition in past years have been his two biggest needs. Going to the USHL cured the second problem. The other seems to still be there.

Perhaps he needs Notty Pine pizza. ;)

Perhaps the pizza, a pound of pasta and a couple of six packs.;) I suspect some extra time in the weight room might also help.

I don't recall if this came up before, but it isn't surprising since Commers is from Edina. The announcers certainly are enthusiastic about everything.

Figured Melanson would be in Engineering. We do get our share of bright kids.

Serious question-even if it doesn't sound like one. There has been a concerted effort to crack down on checking to the head in NCAA hockey. Infractions called even for minor hits. Do the officials differentiate between the head and the neck?
