The good doctor was right again. He said that Princeton was going to be tough. They have lost a lot of one goal games. We almost added to that total in OT, but couldn't finish the job.
A 1-1-1 eight day road trip. Bet it will still feel good to get home tonight.

Little summary as we stopped on the way home for a little food. We played better than it sounded. We made a few mistakes and Princeton took advantage as they play the style of aggressive forecheck that seems to bother our defensemen a lot. We made far too many dangerous passes cross ice and we also had several good chances early but just could not make the finishing shot. We outplayed them for probably 40 minutes and even for 20 minutes but we just did not get many good bounces.
The penalty call on Milos by Hicks that gave Princeton their first goal was an abortion. No one anywhere aro0udn us saw it or thought it was a penalty (including several PU fans). Milos was furious as he went to the box and said something to Hicks but we could not make it out. SA was just screaming from the bench. That goal hit Kazzie square in the chest and fell down and was lost in a seas of players and have no idea how it went in. Whoever the linesman was dropping the puck needs to seriously go back to school on how to conduct a face off. Virtually every face off took several minutes of him holding the puck without dropping it until someone jumped the gun from either side and then someone got tossed.
Thought for certain in the third we were goin to lose this one but give all the credit to this team for not stopping. They had to be tired but over the last couple minutes of regulation and the entire OT they were the far better team and just could not get that last goal. Princeton this year has had a frequent history of playing team very tough (like QU) taking a lead or keeping it tied only to lose late in the third (sound familiar?). We were not lucky, we deserved the tie and with any sort of positive fortune would have gotten just one more.
Had the great fortune to sit Near Waite who is just a perfect gentleman and we also sat with an old time RPI hockey player from way back in the Harkness era. The crowd was sparse and I would guess about 70% RPI fans as judged by the colors worn. Surprised the national anthem did not get a rousing 'RED' but it was as I said a sparse crowd.
For those who have not ever been to Baker ink-it was much colder in the building than outside (about 40 when we arrived and about the same when we left). We had a great time and hope many of you can find a way to come to the game next year in December. Go RED!!

Sure- but not sure if he wants his name posted. Will send you a note shortly after we finish eating. Fabulous restaurant/bar here but that should be expected. After all it is Princeton and i think the Catholic Church comes here when they need to borrow money from someone who has a bit more.

Some belated observations on last night's game.
Dr. D's concern about possible delays in entering the building due to increased security were unfounded. There was no security check at Baker Rink at all. I know, because before I left home, I took my Swiss Army knife to open a package that had arrived at my doorstep, then absentmindedly stuck it in my pocket, where I discovered it when I got to my hotel after the game.
I agree that RPI totally dominated the overtime. There were some really good chances, highlighted by one with about a minute and a half to play, when Liljegren got away from a defenseman, moved toward the net on the left wing, drew Phinney out to challenge him, and then zipped a pass to a teammate coming in from the other side. Unfortunately, the pass bounced off the teammate's stick, and a glorious chance with the goalie totally out of position resulted in no shot.
Afraid I can't shed any light on the former RPI player who was seated next to Dr. D. I was introduced to him, but I must have heard his name wrong. I thought he said his name was Joe and he was in the class of '63, but augenblick.org does not indicate that there was anybody named Joe on the '62-'63 team.

It was Jerry and i sent it off to our resident historian Ralph who found him as a graduating student in aero in 1963. Whether he played hockey as he said or not is up for debate (I think not). BTW your comment on the security was spot on. jenny and I actually got into the building before it was open at 6PM. One of the employees came out and we just held the door and slipped in with the door still locking behind us. As you were with your Swiss Army device, Jenny was armed also. In fact, these days, we rarely go out without having some protection with us. you just never know. Would be interested in your opinion-did you feel the linesman dropping the puck was one of the worst ever?

DrD and I have exchanged several Emails about that person. We have established who he is. Joe is wrong, but '63 is correct. I will leave it to him if he wants to post anything further.

I didn't notice at the time your post before my last post.
I can add that he definitely is on no varsity roster in the three years from 60-61 through 62-63 (not eligible in 59-60). I looked through the online Polys for his freshmen year 59-60 and no articles about the frosh team mentioned him.

You have been very thorough. I could not be sure at the game and took what he said at face value. The Princeton games often attract some of the elder RPI supporters as many of them have gravitated to the area. it is still one of the most lovely places to live (albeit expensive). Almost every year we meet someone from an RPI class in the 60's or 50's and it is just great fun chatting.

I can't recall seeing another linesman who so repeatedly felt compelled to deliver lengthy lectures to the faceoff participants before finally dropping the puck.
